J2 Ventures closed our first, and to this day one of the best LP’s in the world shortly after #Newyears many years (and facials hairs) ago. This person is self made, truly without ego and one of the best operators I have ever seen. Today- unsurprisingly most of our investors are exactly this way. Fittingly it all happened just outside of Jerusalem (on a zoom call- but like, don’t let that get in the way of the solemnity I’m aiming for). This investor in the course of a few minutes taught us some critical lessons on life that I reflect on every New Years and that it feels important to share today: 1. The right time to start is the moment you are ready to go all in. That’s not the same as “the easiest time to start”. 2. Unique ideas are what are in shorty supply, not capital. The ability to raise the money is not the same as the ability to do something with it. 3. Contracts keep honest people honest, and there is no legal fanciness that replaces integrity and honesty to building something amazing together. 4. No one has a secret on how to build effectively- words like “tier 1”, “blue chip” etc are ways the powerful keep themselves in power and are largely undeserved now. The city I was in called many rulers king in many different languages- nothing replaces winning. 5. There is no certainty in this world and things are always evolving. You aren’t guaranteed an outcome but if you are given a shot you have a duty to pursue something for the global good. We look for the above in every entrepreneur we have the honor of empowering through J2 and you can see the resilience in every one. If 2025 is your year, the year you decide the big guy doesn’t have your best interest in mind and you want to change the world- I agree. Let’s get after it. Congratulations J2 Ventures portfolio company, Aalyria, for being one of only four companies selected from 130 proposals for the Opportunistic, Resilient & Innovative Expeditionary Network Topology (ORIENT) contract, part of the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) Replicator Initiative. Under ORIENT, Aalyria's technology will link robust long-haul communications with local mesh networks, enabling the Replicator initiative to function as a system of systems even in disrupted or low-bandwidth conditions. Aalyria's Spacetime software platform plays a critical role by ensuring secure, resilient, and reliable connectivity across complex environments. J2 Ventures is pleased to announce that Master Chief Petty Officer Adam Briley will be joining as our inaugural Defense Fellow! The J2 Defense Fellow is a one-year role designed to support outstanding individuals from the defense and intelligence communities, showcasing J2’s commitment to national security while benefiting from the operational expertise they bring. Adam shares his journey in his own words: "'You know what would be a good idea?' and 'If we only had…' are two of the most common statements in a special operations team room. Toward the end of my 24-year Navy SEAL career, I wanted to stop asking questions and start finding solutions by transitioning from operational leadership roles into research and development position for the U.S. Special Operations Command. There, I led technology teams to ensure mission success and safeguard special operators. My role also allowed me to collaborate with startups on product development, funding strategies, and transition pathways. Aside from the military, I've had the privilege of advising student teams MIT, Harvard, and the U.S. service academies on defense prototypes and hold board positions with non-profit organizations that assist special operators in transitioning into civilian careers. I have an MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and a Master's in Administrative Leadership from the University of Oklahoma. Becoming a J2 Defense Fellow is an immense opportunity that will allow me to continue my commitment to serving our warfighters by learning from and contributing to an incredible team focused on delivering value to national security."

Today, ŌURA announced a strategic partnership with Dexcom to enable two-way data flow between Dexcom glucose biosensors and apps and Oura Ring and the Oura App, providing a first-of-its-kind metabolic health management experience. Along with the partnership, Dexcom has invested $75 million in Oura’s Series D funding, bringing Oura’s valuation to more than $5 billion.
