In Support of National Youth Homelessness Awareness Month, IYG is Sleeping Out So Homeless Youth Can Sleep In Did you know that 1,701 people experiencing homelessness have been counted in Indianapolis thus far this year? That is a 5% increase from last year and is higher than during the COVID-19 pandemic. Did you also know that LGBTQ+ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than their non-LGBTQ+ peers. In solidarity with those we serve and those in our community experiencing homelessness, we’re hosting a sleep-out night under the stars, and we would love for you to be part of it! We invite you to join us for this special event that not only brings us closer as a community but also helps raise awareness about an important issue —youth homelessness. This overnight experience will provide a small glimpse into the challenges faced by individuals without a permanent home. It’s a chance to stand in solidarity, spark important conversations, and show our support for those who are often overlooked. We’ll provide dinner, cardboard boxes, and an open space for sharing stories, learning from each other, and discussing ways we can make a difference. All you need to bring is your own sleeping bag and a heart open to understanding. Register now at bit.ly/iygsleepout24

No one should have to travel long distances for medically necessary healthcare – but a ban on gender-affirming care in Indiana and 24 other states forces trans youth and their families to do just that. We’re proud to partner with Campaign For Southern Equality alongside our friends at GenderNexus on the Trans Youth Emergency project to support families in IN, providing patient navigation services, emergency grants of $500, and more to support the families of trans youth in accessing out-of-state care. Help us spread the word about this important program, and get support from TYEP here: https://lnkd.in/gSxmtRG6

Every so often, we are asked the question, "are organizations like IYG really still needed today?" As the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words." So, today, we wanted to share these photos that were taken this morning at the corner of 38th and Meridian in Indianapolis - right in the middle of our Indy IYG Campus. Protests like these won't make LGBTQ+ youth and young adults go away, they just add to the stressors young people already face. Adolescence is a hard time for everyone without facing a daily onslaught of ignorance and bigotry. At IYG, we provide safer spaces where queer young people can be themselves without fear of backlash or protest. Our organization and those like us truly are needed today, and we need the support of caring, affirming community members like you! If you agree that queer youth and young adults should be able to live openly and authentically without prejudice, please support our work with a donation at https://lnkd.in/guWCNNVj
