100 more homes are underway at Mobile Loaves & Fishes Community First! Village in Austin, TX for the chronically homeless thanks to Lennar Foundation. This extends the work that ICON has completed over the past four years at Community First! Village to serve the underhoused community including 17 homes and facilities. The ICON homes are built in partnership with Lennar Foundation, the charitable arm of Lennar, one of the nation’s leading homebuilders, and are part of the expansion of the Village, which is currently underway. Once all phases at Mobile Loaves & Fishes' Community First! Village are completed and at full capacity, it will be home to an estimated 1,800 formerly homeless individuals. The first 3D-printed structure to receive approval from a Historical Commission recently opened its doors at Camp Mabry in Austin, TX. The Texas Military Department Training and Innovation Center is a 2,600+ sq. ft. building 3D printed by ICON and is part of TMD’s Joint Force Headquarters. Located in the Camp Mabry Historic District, the Innovation Center replaces temporary buildings that have far exceeded their 10-year lifespan, significantly increasing the energy efficiency of the space while providing a more modern and useful facility. The center was completed in 2024 with traditional construction finish outs supported by troop labor from TMD Soldiers and Airmen. This integration provided unique training opportunities for servicemembers and allowed them to utilize state of the art construction methods. Notably, this building is the first 3D-printed structure to receive approval from a historical commission, a testament to its unique integration of cutting-edge technology. Recently, we had the privilege of volunteering our time and efforts at Community First! Village, the master planned development serving the Austin-area’s homeless community, to enhance and beautify the property where we initially 3D printed homes for the "neighbors" of the village. This experience not only allowed us to give back, but also reinforced our commitment to supporting and uplifting the communities we serve. i99 Winners Revealed! Today we are excited to announce the winners of the second (and final) phase of Initiative 99, the global architecture competition to reimagine affordable housing that can be built for $99,000 or less. In addition to the total prize purse of $1M for both Phase 1 and Phase 2, ICON, the Initiative 99 jury and Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) have selected two award-winning designs in the open category for ICON to 3D print within MLF’s Community First! Village’s expansion of their growing master planned development serving the Austin-area’s homeless community. Breaking ground in early 2025, the Initiative 99-designed homes at Community First! Village will be brought to life in part from grant funding from Wells Fargo, which has committed $500,000 to serve the underhoused community.
