Head of Platform at Atento Capital

We recently hosted the Atento Capital Portfolio Retreat—a two-and-a-half-day event in New York City designed to forge meaningful relationships between our portfolio founders and NYC investors, industry experts, and fellow entrepreneurs. With a focus on engagement and growth, we curated every session to maximize impact. We kicked off with an inspiring panel discussion, "How I Built This", Brian Rudolph, Rom Cohen, Liya Shuster-Bier, Ariela Safira, Rema Matevosyan. Moderated by our Managing Director and Co-Founder Will Gray, CFA, the conversation delved into the founders’ journeys and key lessons learned. From there, the energy carried over to a dynamic happy hour at the stunning Company Ventures space, where Tulsa’s talent met with NYC founders, operators, and VCs. We followed the happy hour with a private dinner at Upland where our founders had the opportunity to break bread with a group of amazing investors. Day two was all about learning and sharing. The morning workshop, Trust in Action: Aligning Product Vision with Customer Experience, led by Sam Dix and Prag Anand, encouraged founders to dive deep into how their product vision connects with customer needs, and provided a platform for peer-to-peer feedback. Following the workshop, founders engaged in one-on-one meetings with relevant investors and business development leads, expanding their networks even further. The evening took us to a private dinner hosted in partnership with Resident Hospitality, which was more than just a dinner—it was a curated culinary experience! 🍷 With a private chef and sommelier guiding us through a series of exquisite dishes and wine pairings, the night turned into a space for open dialogue, thoughtful reflection, and forging new partnerships in a truly unique setting. From there, we headed to the Comedy Cellar for a classic New York experience. The final day featured a panel on Navigating Corporate Waters: Strategic Partnerships and Customer Engagement for Startups, where corporate innovation experts Ryan J. Piela, Taylor Buser, Jennifer Agran and Karen Hui-Ying Wang shared practical strategies for landing major customers and navigating corporate relationships with moderator, Perfecto Sanchez. We wrapped up the sessions with When and How to Scale Your Technical and Product Teams, led by Igor "Iggy" Moliver, offering valuable insights into scaling efficiently. And, of course, what better way to conclude than a delicious food tour at Market57 in Chelsea? The founders had the chance to relax and continue building connections in a more casual setting. The Atento Portfolio Retreat was a tremendous success. We are incredibly grateful to all who participated and helped make this retreat a truly memorable experience. A huge thank you to my team Naomi Cervantes, Vondell J. Burns and Kumbaya Okorie for their amazing work and dedication to the event and to all the friends and colleagues from former lives that came out to support!

  • It's incredible how much effort Divya Kakkad and her team puts in to support their portfolio founders at Graham & Walker. It starts by understanding the nature of the challenges that the startups are facing, and then working on personalized solutions to address them. Here are some of the ways that Divya and her team support their founders i.e., their VC Platform offerings: 🍀 Tailored introductions to excited investors 🍀 Connections to subject matter experts for help on complex topics 🍀 Masterclass resources developed in-house that speak to specific challenges 🍀 Discounted/free service offerings from Partners A big thank you to Divya for coming on the show and sharing all her learnings. It was one of my first episodes on the podcast, and I remember feeling very energized after our conversation! If you want to catch the full episode, I'll put the link to the YouTube episode below. #vcplatform #hirecmo #hirecmopod #founder #funding #business #investing #vc #venturecapital #entrepreneur #startup

When VC portfolio founders are actively supported to hit their growth milestones, it becomes a win-win for everyone — The founders, the LPs and the GP. The question that newer funds tend to ask though is the “what” and the “how”: - what kind of support do my founders need? - how do I provide the best version of that support at the precise moment it’s needed? I’ve started interviewing Platform Leads at VC funds on the hirecmo podcast. And it’s fairly interesting learning how funds are thinking about this. My number one finding so far is that 80% of funds with < 20 portfolio startups all offer the same kind of support to their founders: fundraising support, introductions to vendors, investors and industry experts, founder coaching and talent. The other 20% will pick one of the above and execute it extremely well. Because these funds have lean teams, they need to either choose between being a jack of all trades or be extremely good at one. Take a look at our podcast when you have a chance. It’ll become the go-to place for VC funds to learn how they can genuinely support their founders to consistently improve — both as people and as operators. #vcplatform #hirecmo #hirecmopod #founder #funding #business #investing #vc #venturecapital #entrepreneur #startup

I've started to crowdsource questions for our interview series recently. This time, the magic question for Richard Hughes from Gutter Capital was "How should VC funds budget for their VC Platform offerings?" I asked this to Richard because Gutter focuses on Talent as their VC Platform offering, when instead they could be dabbling in several other services for their founders. And I know they excel at it because I've spoken to their founders - and they LOVE the Gutter team and the sizeable impact they've had on sourcing talent for their startups! So then should VC funds only offer one Platform service to be budget-conscious and do it exceedingly well? Or do a little bit of everything and split the budget equally so they cover more ground for their founders? In this snippet, Richard shares what he believes young VC funds should consider when building their Platforms from scratch. P.S. - A special thanks to Carly Martin for this question!

  • Oliver F. was the first guest on the podcast to declare that VC Platform needs a rebrand. What I found interesting is that when Oliver first joined InMotion Ventures, their Platform function wasn't fully defined. And so he had a blank canvas and a palette of imagination to craft a Platform strategy that served their portfolio founders, fund and parent LP (Jaguar Land Rover) in the most effective way. But it wasn't that easy! Watch the snippet below to learn the story of how Oliver took their Platform from "0 to 1". Note: inMotion Ventures is a CVC (Corporate Venture Capital) fund.

  • It's the first time that Let's Talk Ops got a shoutout on our pod from none other than the legendary Operations and VC Platform professional - Rachel Coffman. I was surprised to learn how collaborative the LTO group is in mentoring and having candid discussions with Ops folks to help them fine-tune their skills. Rachel leads Operations and Platform at Footwork, a VC fund that has such a comprehensive way of supporting their founders post-investment. 🍀 Fun fact: I was editing our full episode earlier, and for the first time ever, I was able to extract 18 (!!) individual snippets from a single podcast interview. She had so many gems to drop, and I can't wait to share them with you later this month. Give Rachel a follow on LinkedIn!
