As we approach the end of the year, don’t forget to utilize the IRA rollover. Individuals can make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), which is a direct transfer of funds from their IRA custodian directly to a qualified charity. The QCD can be counted toward satisfying their required minimum distribution as long as certain rules are met. In addition to helping Heifer Foundation, a QCD excludes the amount donated from taxable income. You must be 70-and-a-half or older and can contribute up to $105,000 (index adjusted annually). Continuing our series on legacy giving, we are sharing gifts via will or beneficiary designation. These are two easy ways for donors to make gifts that don’t cost anything now and can have an impact for those in need for generations to come. Donations like these can come from retirement funds, bank accounts, donor-advised funds, savings bonds or life insurance policies. Monthly Fun Fact about Estate Planning: According to historical records, the first known will is believed to be from ancient Egypt, discovered in a tomb excavation at Kahun, dating back to around 2500 BC. The deceased left all of his property to his wife, Teta, but the will contained some stipulations. It was witnessed by two scribes, and was, as the New York Times has stated, “shockingly modern.”
Continuing our series on legacy giving options, today we are highlighting Charitable Remainder Trusts, another option offering donors income for the rest of their life. As we near the end of the year, many individuals and clients might be thinking about legacy giving. We are starting a series here on LinkedIn about different ways to support the Heifer Foundation. First up: Charitable Gift Annuities, a gift offering individuals a fixed income for the rest of their lives, a portion of which is tax-free. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/ePjcYD9Y
Migration can be a valuable path for many, but it’s not the only option. Check out the blog to see how Heifer International is equipping smallholder farmers to earn a steady income at home and offering them the freedom to choose whether to stay rooted in their communities.
