A big thanks to Milwaukee Tool for joining us at the Invention Studio for a Tool Dissection Event! 🔧🛠️ Last month, Tech students had the chance to get hands-on with Milwaukee's tools and dive into discussions with their engineers. It was an amazing opportunity for students to explore careers and learn from industry experts. We’re grateful for the collaboration and hope to host more events like this in the future!

About us
The Invention Studio is a student-run makerspace open to all of Georgia Tech. It is staffed by the Prototyping Instructors, student volunteers who are on hand to train you and help with your projects. Use of the studio is free for all students, faculty and staff of Georgia Tech, regardless of year, major, or prior experience. The Invention Studio is unique in that students are encouraged to “own” the space. Prototyping Instructors, or PIs, lead other students in the use and maintenance of the space, ensuring that the resources remain available to those who wish to use them. To promote and reward creativity, there are only a few strict rules in the Invention Studio. Rather, we promote an ethic of responsibility, safety, and community ownership. In this way, students can explore and develop unconventional ideas in a supporting environment. VISION To be the center of self-initiated Design and Innovation on Georgia Tech’s Campus and an inspiration to inventors and makers worldwide, changing the way science and technology is experienced around the world. OUR MISSION STATEMENT To support and foster the demand for creative, self-initiated learning on the Georgia Tech campus, we create environments for students to make their ideas a reality by providing resources for designing, prototyping, and sharing ideas through workshops, vendor networks, experienced guidance, and access to cutting edge machines.

Earlier this semester, we had the privilege of hosting a group of over 60 innovators at the Invention Studio for a tour and hands-on build party in partnership with TOM - Tikkun Olam Makers (tomglobal.org), a global movement dedicated to creating life-changing, affordable solutions for people living with disabilities, the elderly, and underserved communities. Participants had an inspiring day of creativity and collaboration building a Toddler Mobility Trainer. We’re excited to continue supporting TOM’s mission to make the world more accessible for all. Check out some highlights from the event! 📸

It was an honor to welcome Georgia Power Company’s CEO, Kim Greene to the Invention Studio at Georgia Tech recently. Building meaningful connections between academia and industry is essential for driving innovation and preparing the next generation of leaders. Our collaborative environment cultivates hands-on learning experiences that are paramount for students to excel in their future careers. Special thanks to Sana Hafeez for providing an insightful tour and showcasing the transformative potential of 3-D printing. We’re truly grateful for the time and effort you put into this space day in and day out. This visit underscores the importance of spaces such as ours, and the role they play inbridging the gap between education and industry. We eagerly look forward to fostering more partnerships that empower our students to shape the future of engineering and innovation.
It was a pleasure to host Georgia Power Company's CEO Kim Greene at the Invention Studio at Georgia Tech a couple weeks ago. I believe the hands-on, collaborative environment we foster at Georgia Tech is crucial for preparing students for the real-world challenges they'll face in their careers. Seeing an industry leader engage with our projects and facilities firsthand was a powerful testament to the value of this approach. A huge thank you to our very own 3D printing master, Sana Hafeez, for giving such an informative and engaging tour. Your passion and expertise truly shine through! This visit further emphasizes the power of fostering connections within the engineering community. We're excited to see how these connections may evolve and contribute to the success of Georgia Tech students, ensuring they are well-equipped to lead the future of innovation.

We at the Invention Studio are always excited to share our facilities with students considering furthering their education here, whether an incoming undergraduate student or a potential graduate student. The Invention Studio is a fun, communal, student-oriented space that reminds students there is more to the college experience than lectures and homework, and serves as a refreshing change of pace for students of all levels, allowing them to get hands-on experience with what they are being exposed to in the classroom by pursuing projects that interest them. We are very eager to see this years Focus Scholars in our space, and were happy to welcome them in for a tour to show them what their future at Georgia Tech could look like.
Georgia Tech’s Focus program is one of the nation’s premier graduate recruitment programs designed to attract highly skilled students historically underrepresented in higher education, equipping them with the knowledge and resources necessary to successfully navigate the graduate admissions process. Each year, a select group of undergraduate students (Focus Scholars) who are in their final years of undergrad are invited to apply to attend Focus. During Georgia Tech's 2024 Focus program, scholars visited the Woodruff School where they were welcomed by Eugene C. Gwaltney, Jr. School Chair Devesh Ranjan. They also heard an overview of the graduate programs, learned about the graduate student experience from panelists Haley Hilborn, Jairo Maldonado-Contreras, Emmanuel Mate-Kole, and Chinaza Ogbonna, and had the opportunity to tour the Flowers Invention Studio. We at the Invention Studio at Georgia Tech are very excited to be a part of the #TechMade initiative. Though still in its early stages, the mission of #TechMade is to foster intersectionality between art, science, and engineering, which is exactly what the Invention Studio is designed to enable. From hand-sewn graduation dresses to undergraduate research projects or competition-winning ME 2110 robots, the Invention Studio's motto of "Design, Build, Play" has been championed by every user who walks out with a smile on their face and a finished product in their hands. We are excited to work alongside the #TechMade initiative, and to help lead the push for innovative and transformative learning experiences on campus. Together, we will grow both the hands-on and design skills of Georgia Tech students beyond the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering and into the wider Georgia Tech community.
The Woodruff School continues to position itself on the vanguard of innovation, where design is not just a tool but a guiding principle. The school's commitment to design education, cognitive research, multi-scale computational design, and sustainable design propels its graduates into the workforce as empathetic problem-solvers and leaders. Learn more about the leaders in the Woodruff School embracing and championing this intersection of design and innovation. Full Story: B.gatech.edu/4bigFrp
