Founded in 1992, Group14 Engineering provides building energy analysis, energy master planning, greenhouse gas analysis, commissioning, and sustainable design consulting services. We help clients navigate a wide range of issues from building orientation and daylighting to building operations and product purchasing in order to achieve their sustainability goals. We're excited about the all-electric Carbondale Aquatic Center project, paving the way for a sustainable and energy-efficient future! This initiative will reduce our carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency, and promote cleaner living for the community.
When Land+Shelter took on the Carbondale Aquatic Center project, we were deeply inspired by the town’s rich history and its architectural heritage. The downtown area is a tapestry of historic design details, and while we wanted to honor this legacy, we also believed that simply replicating the past wasn’t possible by virtue of our program – which demanded a solid façade without storefront glass. Unlike the historic storefronts of Main Street’s original structures, we were cladding bathrooms, changing areas, and mechanical spaces. We crafted a design that harmonizes a unique program alongside historic elements. The façade of the Aquatic Center is a testament to this blend. For example, the specific brick selection threads together many of the main street neighbors in texture, color, and size, and the proportions of the glass “window” area is pulled from HPC guidelines for height breaks. The materials were chosen for their beauty as well as their ability to connect with the historic language and patterns.
