Out of Office - Do Not Disturb 😴 GWSC is closed for staff RestoRation starting December 21st through January 8th! First, we will be closed for Rest from 12/21 - 1/1, followed by what we've coined as "Ration week," 1/2 - 1/8. During Ration week, we are closed to the general public, giving staff time to focus on long-term goal planning and to recenter and refocus for the new year ahead. The effects of burnout can seriously affect the mental and physical health of employees in the nonprofit sector, and twice-annual RestoRation is one of the ways that GWSC invests in employee well-being. Research has demonstrated that uninterrupted rest prevents burnout (hence, Rest week!). Ration week was born out of employee feedback, identifying a need for dedicated time to refocus and recenter out of "reactive" work into "proactive" work - it's our way of hitting the "pause" button to catch our breath, gearing up for the next chapter of dedicated impact. We'll catch up with you in the new year - happy holidays and happy new year! ❄️

Our annual holiday treat swap was a fantastic time! To swap goodies (savory and sweet), connect, and celebrate the season, GWSC board, staff, Green Team, and loved ones came together to share an evening together before the holiday break. We're honored to announce that Groundwork Southcoast has been selected as a 2024 recipient of the SNEP Opportunity to Advance Resilience (SOAR) awards. SNEP (the EPA Region 1 Southeast New England Program) selected four grantees across Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts, representing nearly $1.1M in direct investment in environmental justice communities. SOAR funding fuels our 'Workforce Development for Sustainable Southcoast Communities' initiative, which supports the launch of our young adult Green Corps employment program. A first-time SOAR Fund applicant (and now, recipient!), we extend our heartfelt gratitude for this significant accomplishment. For GWSC, this is more than just funding: support from SOAR is a powerful partnership to scale up our mission and usher in GWSC’s next chapter of impact.
