Yesterday, our Smart Futures Lab team, as well as members of the CU Denver College of Engineering, Design, and Computing's staff had the opportunity to engage in a training from 2023 cohort graduate, GridMatrix! We got an up close look at the data dashboard connected to the LiDAR installation at Larimer & Speer, right outside of our lab's physical location. GridMatrix's cloud-based software platform provides a stream of data on congestion, signal performance, emissions, and safety data that enables communities to better understand and respond to traffic patterns at intersections. Not only was it a chance to experience the first technology installation that leverages the 5G private network available to our Smart Futures Lab cohort companies, it got us excited about what's to come as we continue to expand our physical and technological infrastructure.

GridMatrix, in partnership with MetroPlan Orlando, Seminole County Government, and HDR, has deployed its platform for road safety analytics on Florida roads to quantify near-misses, speeds, and other contributing factors to roadway collisions and fatalities. The report details 21-actionable recommendations to better streamline the delivery and completion of major transportation infrastructure projects. The “How NYC Moves” report results from a two-day symposium hosted by multiple city agencies and Cornell Tech’s Urban Tech Hub at the Jacobs Institute in January 2024. We had a great time touring young transportation safety leaders from the #NYTEC2024! Special thanks to GridMatrix for the demo and walking tour of our deployment sensors on campus.
