Today, the GEXTRECS team was demonstrating different telecommunication services based on #GOVSATCOM services in the context of a massive flooding event affecting Poland and Germany due to a terrorist act. Members of the GEXTRECS consortium were hosted by the I.S.A.R. Germany at the Training Base Weeze in Germany – the biggest training site of this kind in Europe. We were very successful and had good time participating in demos. This has been also a bonding exercise as great results can be achieved only in team effort. Happy to confirm that the first part of #GEXTRECS initial demonstrations of the #GOVSATCOM Crisis Management Service Pack was successful and quite spectacular! Today, we concentrated on the maritime use case scenario, and showcased the possibilities and enhanced performance of connectivity via #SATCOM links.
[this is only a drill – the post has been published via #SATCOM] Vital part of communication during natural disasters and other crisis events is maintaining contact with civilians staying on site, affected by the crisis, sometimes presumed missing. SATCOM can be the only channel still able to provide access to the Internet under these circumstances. Sending a message to their families, letting them know of their whereabouts and status prevents spreading panic, anxiety and misinformation. These are the reasons for demonstrating such a functionality – the procedure #GEXTRECS Consortium members are conducting today at the port in Vigo, Spain, as part of maritime use case. Our scenario entails that the group of tourists from the cruise ship has been evacuated and taken on board of @CSIC Sarmiento de Gamboa research vessel. In order to provide them access to the IP services a connection link is established via satellite network. Using this particular telecommunication service, the messages (text only, due to security concerns) on social media platforms (the one you are reading now on LinkedIn and the other one on ‘X’) have been published.

😃😃😃 Happy and enthusiastic faces, since significant week ahead of all of us involved in #GEXTRECS project 📡 The first, official demonstrations of the #GOVSATCOM Crisis Management Service Pack developed in the scope of the GEXTRECS project are about to be run at 2 locations: ⚓the Port of Vigo, Spain on Nov. 15 🏥the Training Base Weeze, Germany on Nov. 18 Before the demonstrations commence, in order to overcome any barriers between technical partners and actual End-Users, on Nov. 14 the consortium is meeting on the #training. During #demonstrations we will dive into specific use case scenarios with our GEXTRECS partners, showcasing specific #SATCOM services and synergies with #CopernicusEU and #Galileo #GNSS. The EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme has awarded us the contract for the GOVSATCOM Hub, a critical part of the European Union's Governmental Satellite Communications Programme. With a €107M budget and a three-year timeline, this contract strengthens our role within the EU Space Programme. The GOVSATCOM Hub will ensure secure satellite communication services for EU Member States, covering crucial areas such as crisis management, border surveillance, and critical infrastructure protection. As our CEO, Jesus Serrano, stated: "This contract consolidates GMV’s position as a prime contractor in the EU’s space programme. A low-pressure system named #Boris brought heavy rain to central Europe between 11 & 15 September, causing widespread #flooding from Poland to Romania and at least seven casualties.
