The AI regulation landscape is shifting fast and new regulation is coming out all over the world every day. 3 months ago the DOJ quietly dropped a major update to their rulebook on compliance violations. Interestingly enough a significant portion of the redlines were all on AI. - This isn't just another policy paper. This is the actual playbook DOJ prosecutors use to decide whether to bring charges against companies. Here's what you need to know about the DOJ's updates. → For everyone using AI in their product: You need to regularly test how your AI system behaves, catch problems before they happen, and have a clear plan for when things go wrong. It’s like having smoke detectors and a fire escape plan - basic safety that protects everyone. → For teams deploying AI: You can't just set it and forget it. You need humans watching over your AI systems and clear rules about who can change what. It's the same as having senior engineers review code before it goes to production - someone needs to be accountable for what the AI does. → For your whole company: Everyone needs to understand what your AI can and can't do. Your engineers, your sales team, your customer support - they all need to know their role in managing AI responsibly. Just like your sales team needs to understand your pricing and features, everyone needs to understand your AI's capabilities and limits. - Smart founders will see this as more than just regulation. It's a chance to build trust with customers, create a competitive advantage, and play the long game. If you want to get ahead of regulation, SOC 2 is a great place to start.
