Ruesch Center for the Cure of Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancers at Georgetown Lombardi has been dedicated to advancing transformative research to save lives. Jeanne’s dedication, alongside Dr. John Marshall’s leadership, has propelled groundbreaking advancements in GI cancer research, patient care, and education. The 2024 Lombardi Women: Connecting for a Cure event brought together breast cancer survivors, researchers, and supporters to raise $290K+ for the Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research at Georgetown Lombardi. This year’s event featured heartfelt survivor stories and updates on groundbreaking research from experts like Dr. Claudine Isaacs and Dr. Lucy Maria de la Cruz. We recently celebrated a decade of progress in treating melanoma and kidney cancer at the Thrivership Luncheon. Held at the Annapolis Yacht Club, survivors gathered to share stories of resilience and success, thanks to groundbreaking immunotherapy treatments that have revolutionized care. Dr. Michael Atkins, who led many of these clinical trials, reminded attendees: “The journey of going through treatment for cancer is a relatively lonely journey. You do it with yourself and your family, maybe some close friends, but now you’re in a room with a lot of people who’ve been through essentially the same journey and you realize you’re not alone.” With over 100,000 melanoma diagnoses and 80,000 kidney cancer diagnoses in the U.S. each year, these advancements are saving lives and providing hope. https://lnkd.in/gge4RYHm
