I Left Music Behind for a Shocking Reason! On today's episode of Diversified Game we are joined by Monty Graham also known as Gusto and the owner of Cashew Daddy. Gusto originally moved from the USA to Ghana to pursue his career as an artist. Eventually he started Cashew Daddy while living in Ghana. Cashew Daddy is an agricultural company that adds value to cashews grown in West Africa. Kellen and Gusto discuss Gusto's entrepreneurial background and how he transitioned from a "hustler" mindset to building a legitimate business. He discusses the unique processing and packaging methods that give the cashews a distinct natural flavor. Gusto also shares how he has expanded the business to include value-added products like a cashew fruit drink. Challenges and lessons learned @ 17:31 Gusto discusses the challenges of navigating business in Ghana as an expat, including being cautious of bad actors and learning to choose his partners wisely. He shares how he has adapted his "street-wise" mentality to build genuine, trustworthy relationships with local farmers and cooperatives. Expansion and future plans @ 46:17 Gusto outlines his plans for scaling the Cashew Daddy brand, including exploring distribution opportunities in the US and other African countries. He also discusses his consulting work to help other entrepreneurs interested in doing business in Ghana, and emphasizes the importance of building the right network and connections. Recap and closing thoughts @ 49:24 Gusto reflects on how moving to Ghana has allowed him to be more creative and innovative, and how the slower pace of life has enabled him to rewrite his own story. He encourages others to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams in Africa, while also cautioning about the need for proper planning and preparation before making the move.
