Their hybrid technology captures multiple CO₂ streams more efficiently, requires less energy, and can operate at a smaller scale—all promising strides for cost-effective carbon removal. As their first buyer, we’re excited to support Gaia Refinery in reaching critical milestones. We’re offering each of the 20 carbon removal startups selected by AirMiners for its Kiloton Fund an added bonus: a $100k purchase from Shopify! The Kiloton Fund is a pilot for a new funding model for early-stage carbon removal companies. In exchange for upfront capital, investors share in a portion of a company’s future revenue rather than taking an equity stake. In an industry where some companies are struggling to access capital, and others want to maintain a greater control over their company, it’s a welcome experiment. So we’re putting Shopify’s support behind the program as a buyer. We’re doing this by offering each company a $100k purchase from Shopify, facilitated by AirMiners, to be paid out in 2030 upon successful delivery of credits. It’s a strong cohort of companies that includes direct air capture startups Sirona Technologies and Gaia Refinery, and ocean-based carbon removal companies Planeteers and Scape. We’re excited to provide each of them with another signal of commercial traction. Above all, we’re excited to see where AirMiners takes the program from here! Big news! After an extraordinarily competitive selection process, Milkywire has chosen thirteen new carbon dioxide removal suppliers we intend to support through the Climate Transformation Fund in 2024. This year, we reviewed over 220 CDR proposals through our open call, and have chosen suppliers who are pushing the limits of current technology. CDR is crucial, but it's still in the early stages. For CDR this decade is all about figuring out which technologies are the most effective, affordable, and scalable and laying the foundation for an industry that can scale massively in the years to come. Congratulations to: Aquarry, Flux, Mati Carbon, Vycarb, Alkali Earth. Gaia Refinery, Yama (formerly Maia), Ucaneo, Carbon Atlantis, Holocene Solidaridad Network/Planboo, BIOSORRA, PyroCCS - Biochar CDR Solution. These new partnerships include ventures in new geochemical solutions such as Aquarry’s method of using mine pit lakes, novel direct air capture methods as Gaia Refineries mix of biomass removal and DAC, and very scalable biochar technologies increasing the incomes of vulnerable farmers such as in Planboo and Solidaridads project. We are excited to be the first significant buyer for many of these companies. Get in touch, and we will let you know how your company can support the CDR startups in the fund with a pre-purchase or donation.  The Climate Transformation Fund aims to support all types of solutions needed for global net zero, including emission reduction, and nature restoration & protection projects. For these categories our 2024 selection is still ongoing. Klarna, the founding donor to the fund, just announced that they are raising their internal carbon fee to $200 per tonne in Scope 1 and 2, while contributing $100 for emissions from business travel and $10 per tonne for the rest of Scope 3. In 2024 they will contribute over $2 million, making their total contribution to projects in the fund $7 million since 2021. The fund is also supported by companies like Spotify, BioGaia AB, Atomico and Mentimeter and has supported 30 projects worldwide since 2021. By the end of this year, we expect to have paid out more than $13 million to over 45 climate projects in total. https://lnkd.in/gvmWQtjG
