We are Working to Permanently Restore Earth’s Balance by Removing Carbon from the Atmosphere

About us

Gaia Refinery is a women led, Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Company. Gaia Refinery is pioneering a unique carbon dioxide removal technology that merges Direct Air Capture with Biomass Carbon Removal. This innovative approach utilizes liquid DAC capture technology and biogenic feedstocks to capture three streams of CO2, offering a potentially more cost-effective solution than current DAC technologies. Our hybrid technology requires less electricity, captures more CO2 per ton of biomass, and can achieve efficient scale at a smaller plant size.

🥳 Did you know it’s Carbon Removal Day today? Ready to take part? 📣 Yes, today is the world’s first ever Carbon Removal Day, an initiative started by Jack Sullivan and spearheaded by TITO JANKOWSKI - AIRMINER to get everyone – but particularly those outside our own “CDR bubble” – to learn more about the vital role carbon dioxide removal (#CDR) plays in reversing the effects of climate change. ⚠️ You don’t necessarily need to work in CDR to have an impact on the planet. There are things all of us can do, today, to help remove carbon from the atmosphere. 💚 One super easy, fun, and thoughtful way is sending a Thanks a Ton card to someone. Starting at $5, you can purchase a small amount of CDR within 2 clicks. This way you can actively help finance CDR and spread the word about it at the same time! 🙏 I’ve just sent my biomass carbon removal and storage (#BICRS), direct air capture (#DAC), enhanced rock weathering (#ERW), and reforestation cards to four people I admire for their efforts in helping scale CDR: Anna Lerner Nesbitt, Christopher Neidl, Eve Tamme, and Robert Höglund. 🖇 Go and send your personal thanks a ton card here: https://lnkd.in/dKkbDvXj 👩💻 Make sure to also check out the Carbon Removal Day website which has plenty of helpful tools for you to spread the word on this special day: https://lnkd.in/d9mYTHge 🌍 We need to scale CDR thousands of time, as soon as possible. Take action, and spread the word today. #CDRNow #CarbonRemovalDay #carbonremoval

  • Exciting news! We’re honoured to be part of the Kiloton Fund pilot alongside so many innovative carbon removal startups. This added opportunity and support from Shopify is a great example of how creative funding models can fuel our progress toward a carbon-negative future. A huge thanks to AirMiners for bringing us together and to Shopify for backing these critical solutions with real commercial commitment.

    Sustainability Fund at Shopify

We’re offering each of the 20 carbon removal startups selected by AirMiners for its Kiloton Fund an added bonus: a $100k purchase from Shopify! The Kiloton Fund is a pilot for a new funding model for early-stage carbon removal companies. In exchange for upfront capital, investors share in a portion of a company’s future revenue rather than taking an equity stake. In an industry where some companies are struggling to access capital, and others want to maintain a greater control over their company, it’s a welcome experiment. So we’re putting Shopify’s support behind the program as a buyer. We’re doing this by offering each company a $100k purchase from Shopify, facilitated by AirMiners, to be paid out in 2030 upon successful delivery of credits. It’s a strong cohort of companies that includes direct air capture startups Sirona Technologies and Gaia Refinery, and ocean-based carbon removal companies Planeteers and Scape. We’re excited to provide each of them with another signal of commercial traction. Above all, we’re excited to see where AirMiners takes the program from here! See the comments for more info, including all selected teams.

🌱 Meet Gaia Refinery from our Spring 2024 Climate Tech Accelerator Program! Gaia Refinery is developing a technology that removes atmospheric and biogenic CO2 within one circular process. Gaia Refinery’s technology is ¼ Direct Air Capture (DAC), ¾ Biomass Carbon Removal (BiCRS) – intentionally designed to maximize utilization of biomass resources and minimize the energy intensity of DAC. "I am most excited about the concrete feedback and the small group settings that allow for increased engagement during sessions. The candid insights from speakers and the hands-on help with our pitch deck, data room, and script feedback are incredibly valuable." - Genny Shaw, Founder of Gaia Refinery 🔗 Learn more about what they do here: gaiarefinery.com 🔗 Learn more about Brinc's Web3 Program: https://lnkd.in/gBX4Q4pn --- 🔔 Stay in the loop with Brinc's latest news & updates: bit.ly/3K9W6B4 #Brinc #BrincVC #BrincCohort2024 #ClimateTech #StartupAccelerator #Innovation #GameChangers

📰 So happy that we can announce this publicly. Much thanks to Milkywire and Klarna for their support, insights and action! 💫 " These new partnerships include ventures in new geochemical solutions such as Aquarry’s method of using mine pit lakes, novel direct air capture methods as Gaia Refinery's mix of biomass removal and DAC, and very scalable biochar technologies increasing the incomes of vulnerable farmers such as in Planboo and Solidaridads project. " ... 💫

Big news! After an extraordinarily competitive selection process, Milkywire has chosen thirteen new carbon dioxide removal suppliers we intend to support through the Climate Transformation Fund in 2024. This year, we reviewed over 220 CDR proposals through our open call, and have chosen suppliers who are pushing the limits of current technology. CDR is crucial, but it's still in the early stages. For CDR this decade is all about figuring out which technologies are the most effective, affordable, and scalable and laying the foundation for an industry that can scale massively in the years to come. Congratulations to: Aquarry, Flux, Mati Carbon, Vycarb, Alkali Earth. Gaia Refinery, Yama (formerly Maia), Ucaneo, Carbon Atlantis, Holocene Solidaridad Network/Planboo, BIOSORRA, PyroCCS - Biochar CDR Solution. These new partnerships include ventures in new geochemical solutions such as Aquarry’s method of using mine pit lakes, novel direct air capture methods as Gaia Refineries mix of biomass removal and DAC, and very scalable biochar technologies increasing the incomes of vulnerable farmers such as in Planboo and Solidaridads project. We are excited to be the first significant buyer for many of these companies. Read about all selected suppliers here: https://lnkd.in/gvmWQtjG Basically all of these startups need more support than we currently can give them to properly try out their solutions at a relevant scale. We need you to pitch in as well. Get in touch, and we will let you know how your company can support the CDR startups in the fund with a pre-purchase or donation.  The Climate Transformation Fund aims to support all types of solutions needed for global net zero, including emission reduction, and nature restoration & protection projects. For these categories our 2024 selection is still ongoing. Klarna, the founding donor to the fund, just announced that they are raising their internal carbon fee to $200 per tonne in Scope 1 and 2, while contributing $100 for emissions from business travel and $10 per tonne for the rest of Scope 3. In 2024 they will contribute over $2 million, making their total contribution to projects in the fund $7 million since 2021. The fund is also supported by companies like Spotify, BioGaia AB, Atomico and Mentimeter and has supported 30 projects worldwide since 2021. By the end of this year, we expect to have paid out more than $13 million to over 45 climate projects in total. https://lnkd.in/gvmWQtjG
