  • In a system where impermanence and instability prevail, many people affected by foster care lack a solid support system. Children, young adults, and parents often feel totally alone.    Mentorship provides a caring, supportive relationship so these vulnerable groups can share their burdens. First City Church in Florida is making waves with their mentorship program and parenting class--so much that the state began seeking their advice.    We spoke with Rick, Erica, and Jesse of First City Church who stepped in to mentor parents and prove just how much mentorship matters. To read their story, visit our blog. https://lnkd.in/eh3hVu45

  • It takes courage to jump into scary, painful, and heartbreaking situations to help the children caught in the midst. Social workers, mentors, volunteers, and foster/adoptive families face heartbreaking situations.    While the kids' sense of home may be crumbling, these adults protect them and fight for their best interests. It's hard work, and it's often costly, but the difference they make for children can't be overstated.    To all of you, thank you for the amazing work you’ve done in 2024. We’re praying for you and for even more healing for kids and families in 2025!

I help communities solve complicated problems using a collective impact model and oversee the expansion of the 100 Families Initiative. Consultant/Connector/Housing Guru

What a privilege to get to speak at the Iowa Economic Mobility Summit at the invitation of Secretary Garcia at the beautiful World Food Prize Hall of Laureates. Chan Hellman, PhD author of Hope Rising and leader in the Science of Hope spoke as well as Michael Woodhead of FinFit and others. We loved being joined by our friends …ahem… strategic philanthropic partners For Others Collective 😁 We met so many friendly people in Iowa that it had me rethinking the validity of one of my faves that I got to see on Broadway starring Hugh Jackman, Music Man. I think I did get a glimpse of the Iowa stubbornness but only in a wonderfully positive way: They are serious about helping families to thrive! So good to see all of you and looking forward to a visit to Arkansas soon. Jared Brown Paul Chapman Monica Stone Shelley Horak EdD, MPH, CHES Justin Brown Deborah Wyatt Janee Harvey, LISW

  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are distressing experiences a child endures before age 18. A study by the CDC found that "61% of adults had at least one ACE and 16% had 4 or more types of ACEs." These instances can have a profound impact on child development and future outcomes.    But there's good news! Preventing ACEs is possible and makes an enormous difference in children's lives. Visit our blog to find out how you can help prevent ACEs and help kids who have experienced them.

  • Awareness leads to action, and few raise awareness as well as NEEDTOBREATHE. The ongoing child welfare crisis is close to their hearts, so NEEDTOBREATHE teamed up with For Others to make a difference. They use their stage to make thousands aware of the crisis and how they can help end it. Chad and Sharlene Pigg-Fife were at their first NEEDTOBREATHE concert when they learned about For Others. They felt an immediate desire to help, but they had no idea it would lead them on an incredible journey that lasted far beyond the concert. What started as a fun night out became a life-changing moment for Chad and Sharlene. We sat down with them to chat about their journey and the vital role NEEDTOBREATHE played in getting it started. To Bear, Seth, Josh, Randall, and Tyler: THANK YOU!

  • When Bennett Chapel learned about the hardest-to-place children available for adoption in their state, they knew they couldn’t sit on the sidelines. Most of the kids struggled with abuse, trauma, and neglect. Reverend W.C. Martin and his wife, Donna, decided to adopt and told their church about the ongoing crisis.    Their message struck a chord, and 22 families at their tiny church ended up adopting 77 of the state’s hardest-to-place children.      Their efforts were not without difficulties. Possum Trot, Texas doesn’t even show on a map, and the residents struggled to make ends meet. But the story of Bennett Chapel is a perfect example of the Well-Being Support Ecosystem that For Others works to establish across the nation. The children were at the heart, the adoptive families surrounded them, and the church community further supported the families in need. By working together, no one had to walk alone.     Read the incredible full story of Bennett Chapel here: https://lnkd.in/enHTDAcY
