During High Point Market, I had the privilege of being interviewed by a host from NPR's Planet Money to explore how trends originate at High Point. The discussion began with questions like, “What is High Point?” and “How does this small town serve as the epicenter of the global home furnishings industry?” Acting as a tour guide for a show I deeply admire, I also had the opportunity to highlight the economic significance of our industry in shaping consumer behavior. The experience included an insightful conversation with Caroline Hipple of Hooker Furnishings Corporation where she shared her perspective on home industry trends and their journey into everyday living spaces. As an added bonus, the segment kicks off with a fantastic cameo of the ISFD Pinnacle Awards. Enjoy the listen, it's a fun one! ((cc High Point Market Authority Fashion Snoops))

  • Malls are experiencing a renewed cultural and economic relevance, evolving to meet the demands of diverse consumer preferences, focusing on community, social interaction, and adaptive space use. With 61% of Americans wanting to see a revival of traditional mall experiences, “newstalgia” initiatives like Gap's Y2K collection and Auntie Anne's pretzel-scented perfume appeal to Gen Z’s nostalgia. Malls are also transforming into social hubs, with Gen Z flocking to them for both shopping and socializing, spurring investments in entertainment spaces like Netflix House and IKEA's Hej!Workshop. Emphasizing inclusivity, brands such as H&M and Abercrombie & Fitch Co. are now catering to broader audiences, while mixed-use re-developments provide amenities like housing, health services, and education, reviving vacant spaces and boosting local economies. #genz #nostalgia #inclusivity Photo: Gap
