Partnering with under-resourced NYC schools to integrate high quality music education into the core curriculum.

About us

Founded in 1991, Education Through Music (ETM) is a nonprofit organization that has provided over 8 million hours of music education in NYC public schools. ETM promotes the use of music as a means of enhancing students' academic performance and general development. By providing year-long, in-school music education programs with a dedicated staff of teachers and support management, ETM makes music education a reality for thousands of children who would otherwise have limited or no exposure to music instruction at school. • “We are in schools that never would have had music education were it not for ETM,” says our CEO Janice Weinman Shorenstein. Students who have access to ETM’s program develop camaraderie with their peers, discover creativity within themselves, and experience joy, pride, and a true sense of accomplishment. As we enter 2025, our goal is to bring music education to an additional 1,000 underserved NYC students over the nearly 20,000 that we already serve. With an end-of-year gift, you can help us ensure that more students experience the self-confidence and sense of community that music education brings. ✨ Donate today to help the next generation compose a future of their greatest potential: https://bit.ly/4eDvRzX
