Today, we’re sharing some momentous news: Our first-in-human clinical study has been approved and will take place in early 2025 at The Panama Clinic. The study will demonstrate the usability of our novel, brain-like materials and marks the first time this type of bio-inspired material is authorized for use in humans. Our goal with this study is to generate initial safety data and show that our implantable Brain-Computer Interface (iBCI) can be used to decode neural signals in humans, while minimizing disruption to the brain and integrating with existing surgical workflows. Participants will include patients undergoing existing brain resection surgery, during which we intend to decode volitional brain activity. We’re proud of our team’s relentless dedication to making iBCIs safer and more effective, while also ensuring they’re user-friendly and not overengineered. This clinical translation is a big milestone that brings us closer to helping the millions of patients suffering from untreatable chronic neurological disorders. Thank you to our partners in this study, Dr. Ricardo Bermudez, his team at The Panama Clinic, and bioaccess® LATAM MEDTECH CRO®. Congratulations Commonwealth Fusion Systems on naming Chesterfield County, Virginia, as the site for the first ARC power plant and in locking arms in a deal with Dominion Energy Fusion is one step closer to reality. #PowerMoves #FusionEnergy #ToughTech
Fusion is coming... to Chesterfield County, Virginia. In an enormous development for Commonwealth Fusion Systems and for the commercialization of fusion energy, CFS has committed to build the world's first grid-scale fusion power plant, ARC, in Virginia. We evaluated more than 100 sites around the world before settling on this location, a good site with good infrastructure and a strong appetite for the firm supply of power we'll provide. We'll independently finance, build, own, and operate this first-of-its-kind technology so we can start generating clean, carbon-free energy in the early 2030's. We'll also collaborate with Dominion Energy Virginia to help smooth ARC's path to the grid, benefitting from their development and technical expertise while helping the utility learn about fusion. ARC will produce about 400 megawatts of electricity — enough to power 150,000 homes in the area or some of the largest commercial and industrial sites. Watch the video to learn more and hear from our CEO, Bob Mumgaard, about the announcement. For more details, check Bob's blog post about what this means for CFS: https://bit.ly/4gF0s1c #PowerMoves

Our co-founder and CEO Paul Le Floch represented Axoft at the 70th annual IEDM Conference in San Francisco, where he spoke about the need to develop novel, soft materials to improve the stability and performance of implantable brain-computer interfaces (iBCIs). His presentation included results on the long-term stability of soft neural interfaces and their ability to track single-neuron activity over multiple years in preclinical models, as illustrated in this video, and a newly published technical paper that outlined: - How current, state-of-the-art, thin-film electronics rely on rigid materials with limited biocompatibility, which hinders the design of scalable neural interfaces. - Why building high-density, chronically stable probes for tissue-wide neural interfaces is key for improving the efficacy of implantable BCIs, discovering neural biomarkers for diagnostics and developing patient-specific neuromodulation therapies. - How Axoft’s soft, biocompatible, high-performance dielectric materials are specifically designed to overcome the typical trade-off between bandwidth and stability in implantable neural interfaces. We’re proud to share more about the new class of materials Axoft is developing to overcome the long-standing limitations of BCIs – for both physicians and patients suffering from chronic neurological disorders. The full technical paper will soon be available on https://lnkd.in/ekyezCa. The conversations around decarbonizing heavy industry continue to build, especially with respect to first-of-a-kind (FOAK) deployments of emerging technologies. When Via delivered our FOAK system we prioritized: 1. Value creation - delivering energy/chemical savings and operational flexibility to the customer, with no green premium 2. Time - delivering the system as quickly, and safely, as possible 3. Scale - delivering a system of relevant scale that retires technology risk for the industry Via is excited to publish our results outlining the first 6 months of operations at this deployment, dubbed Project Kodiak. The Via system has operated safely and reliably at this customer site while showcasing a 76% reduction in energy demand compared to the incumbent process. Dive into our system performance here: https://lnkd.in/ejW_pEH3 #FOAK #industrialdecarbonization

If you're curious to know how biomanufacturing and AI can amplify reforestation impact and address the global seed deficit, check our feature in Forbes by John Werner. Restoration is key to maintaining global forest cover and biodiversity, but today, a lack of appropriate seed renders most planting efforts ineffective. Our team is excited to be advancing bio-powered technologies that can scale to protect and restore forest resources. https://lnkd.in/efHGSvKv #Biomanufacturing #ClimateResilience #Reforestation #ForayBioscience #Seed #AI
