The EL Education National Conference was an event not to be missed last week! A few exciting highlights: - Head of School Laina Cox accepted our official EL Education Re-Credential, recognizing our commitment to empowering students through the EL Education model - 8th Grader Jordanny introduced the keynote speaker, Ron Berger, and spoke on a student panel in front of all the attendees. - Seniors Emely & Ailene were our first Capital City students to serve as student conference ambassadors! - LS Literacy Specialist Dr. Brittney Henderson and HS Music Teacher Greg Martin presented an engaging workshop on culturally sustaining pedagogy to a packed room - LS Principal Míchelle Pugh led a workshop on creating positive and sustaining Instructional Leadership Teams to improve equitable outcomes for all (we heard that two Silverberg Leadership Awardees attended & were enthralled!!) Congrats, team! #WeAreCrew #KNOWCapitalCity

  • Rooted in Rochester shares the story of students at World of Inquiry School #58 who planted 1,967 tulip bulbs to honor their school’s founding year and history. On Better World Day, they celebrated the blooms with a campus cleanup and community art project, fostering meaningful connections and showcasing the power of students as leaders of their learning. Student Body Attorney General | Honors B.A. English & Political + Legal Theory, Pre-Law

Last week, I had the privilege of attending my fourth EL Education conference in Atlanta, an experience that continues to reinforce my commitment to advancing education equity. It was an honor to speak alongside Ron Berger one of the most inspiring figures in education, as we explored the idea of students as heroes—an important concept often overlooked by traditional school curriculums. We believe that young people have the power to make meaningful change, and it is essential that schools provide the support and opportunities to help them realize that potential. I am proud to say that the EL Education model embodies this vision. Additionally, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Dimity Palmer-Smith, Kayla Mitchell , and Saniya Cunningham to discuss the true meaning of postsecondary success. I had engaging conversations with educators and school leaders about the importance of encouraging students to explore a range of post-graduation pathways, including trade schools and careers, rather than simply directing them toward traditional college routes. Our education system should be designed to support each student’s unique strengths and aspirations, and the success of students after high school is a clear reflection of how well that goal is being achieved. I’m so proud to work with EL Education, and can’t wait to see what’s next!
