  • the building blocks for a healthier life are TINY. “…most everyone wants to make some kind of change: eat healthier, lose weight, exercise more, reduce stress, get better sleep. We want to be better parents and partners. We want to be more productive and creative. But the alarming level of obesity, sleeplessness, and stress reported by the media… tell me there is a painful gap between what people want and what they actually do. The disconnect between want and do has been blamed on a lot of things-but people blame it on themselves for the most part. They internalize the cultural message of "It's your fault! You should exercise more, but you aren't doing it. Shame on you!” I am here to say: It isn't your fault" The above excerpts are from BJ Fogg, PhD “Tiny Habits” and a summary of the conclusions of his findings after 20 years as a behavioral researcher at his Behavioral Design Lab at Stanford University. The book is fantastic and so is his TED talk if you want a distilled version. But the essence is this: tiny changes made with a positive attitude lead to big transformations. This is the “science” (I prefer ~magic~) that edggies is built on. Any personal transformation is improved by leaning into the natural workings of the human mind, to break down barriers between what you want for your life and where you are today. At edggies we start with empathy. It’s not only because we want people to feel welcome, it’s fundamentally because when you stop judging and start understanding, you are in a much better place to improve. In the words of BJ Fogg: “In order to design successful habits and change your behaviors, you should do three things. Stop judging yourself. Take your aspirations and break them down into tiny behaviors. Embrace mistakes as discoveries and use them to move forward... ...you change best by feeling good--not by feeling bad.” Let’s say your goal is to improve your cardiac health. Sure, you could run a marathon immediately, but realistically, there are steps between you and your goals. edggies is the nutritional equivalent of starting on that journey to cardiac health by walking to dinner instead of taking a cab. Then you may be ready to try longer walks and then hikes and then runs. Without those intermediary steps, the difficulty of growth becomes much higher: like trying to scale a cliff instead of hiking the gradual incline of a mountain. When I was first working on edggies, I was building something to help me in moments of weakness: when I was craving food because I was stressed and alone. I felt that my food options were quite binary: delicious or healthy. edggies is a tool to build a bridge between who you are and who want to be. We hope edggies can help people like YOU feel more energetic and happy so you can devote your time not to worrying about what’s for dinner, but to building your dreams and strengthening your most important relationships.

The first thing people say when they hear about edggies is: "that's so great for kids!" And while it's true, edggies' neutral flavor make them an amazing way to sneak veggies into any meal you're making for your kids, adults are not as immune to avoiding their vegetables as they may think. According to a study published by the NIH, 75% of American adults overstate the quality of their diet. The results are pretty bad, with 63% of adults perceiving their diet quality as very good or good while 70% scored diet quality grades of F. Interestingly, females, adults with lower educational attainment, and those with low food security were MORE likely to accurately assess their diet quality. 75% of us Americans don't understand that our diets are not working for us and therefore are not even aware that we have to make changes. We have this hubris around our health. But as we all know, the first step to fixing a problem is recognizing that it exists. The result of the collective American ignorance to our nutritional condition is that 90% of American adults are not receiving crucial nutrients on a daily basis. This collective deficiency places a burden not only on our health systems but on our national wellbeing. edggies strives to help fill this nutritional gap, offering a solution that is not currently widespread: a portable, shelf stable way to add your veggies to anything you're already eating. It's a small step to addressing this problem, but an important one: there's now always a way to make any meal a little bit healthier. Cited Study: Thomson JL, Landry AS, Walls TI. Can United States Adults Accurately Assess Their Diet Quality? Am J Health Promot. 2023 May;37(4):499-506. doi: 10.1177/08901171221137056. Epub 2022 Nov 2. • In a country abundant with food options, it’s paradoxical that many Americans still face significant nutritional challenges. Despite the wealth of resources, deficiencies in essential nutrients like Vitamin D, magnesium, and iron are alarmingly common. Why is this happening? Dietary Choices: The prevalence of processed foods, high in sugars and unhealthy fats, often overshadows the intake of fresh, nutrient-dense options. Convenience often trumps nutritional value. Economic Barriers: Healthy food is often more expensive and less accessible in many communities. Food deserts or low-income and low-access areas, areas with limited access to affordable and nutritious food, are a stark reality for ~10% of Americans (USDA). Lack of Awareness: Many people are unaware of their nutritional needs or how to meet them effectively. 90% of Americans are not eating enough fruits and vegetables (CDC), but most Americans overestimate the quality of their diet (USDA). 71% of participants in a USDA study rated their diet as good, very good, or excellent, but only 12% of their diets actually ranked that highly in terms of healthy eating. Education around balanced diets and nutritional requirements is crucial. Cultural Influences: Our dietary habits are deeply rooted in culture and tradition. But sometimes tradition doesn’t always align with nutritional guidelines. Addressing these issues requires a multifaceted approach: Promoting Nutritional Education: Educating people about the importance of a balanced diet and how to achieve it. Improving Food Accessibility: Supporting initiatives that provide affordable, healthy food options in underserved areas. Encouraging Healthy Choices: Through public health campaigns and by making nutritious options more appealing and accessible. As we work towards these goals at edggies by providing an easier way to eat vegetables, we seek to work with other businesses, communities, and individuals that will all play a crucial role. If you are working towards the same mission please reach out! We are always looking to improve our practices and collaborate to help Americans eat the way they deserve. Together, we can make strides in overcoming these nutritional challenges and fostering a healthier country. #Nutrition #PublicHealth #FoodSecurity #HealthyLiving #CommunityWellness

  • We hate throwing food away. But America throws A LOT away: 88 million tons in 2022 (548 lbs per person). That is equivalent to 1,000,000 Boeing 737s and nearly 40% of total food production. So who is creating this food waste? Probably you! Households are the largest contributor responsible for nearly half of all food waste. How do we stop this? By taking a look at what exactly Americans are throwing away and why. Produce is the largest share of food waste, which makes sense given the short freshness period between cultivation and spoilage is mostly spent in industrial processes like cleaning, sorting, transportation, and grocery store sale, not in your fridge! Not only that, but package sizes are often too large for single consumers, resulting in consistent food waste. We know you are doing your best. You're busy doing the things that matter to you most. So let us worry about the veggies. Edggies are dehydrated veggie sprinkles that pack in nutrients but are shelf stable. By choosing edggies instead of fresh greens, you can avoid the weekly produce spoilage countdown. We're launching this summer. • Americans are struggling to eat well: Only 1/10 Americans are eating enough fruits and vegetables (CDC) and 1/3 American adults are overweight (NIH). But nearly half of Americans (130 million people) claim to actively try to eat well. There is a need and a desire for a better way to eat healthy. So what is stopping us from eating better? 46% of U.S. adults said a barrier to eating healthy foods was their price (Cleveland Clinic) 25% of Americans stated that they had to little time to cook and prepare healthy foods (Cleveland Clinic) while 20% percent said they didn't know how to cook healthy foods (Cleveland Clinic). edggies proposes a solution in the form of dehydrated veggie sprinkles: a fun, stress-free way to eat healthy by removing barriers of cost, time, and inconvenience. As a bonus, edggies are flavor neutral, shelf-stable for 2 years, and portable (they are also certified organic and traceable and made by a family run farm). We are launching this summer with kale edggies and if you're interested in signing up for our waitlist go to edggies.com.
