Explosions rocked the bases of four massive smokestacks that have dotted the horizon just west of Farmington for half a century. EcoFlight’s Benjamin Hunter captured the massive towers come crashing down with the historic closure and demolition of the San Juan Generating Station. This marks a huge step in the end of coal’s dirty domination of the Four Corners region. Watch the demolition here https://lnkd.in/ghmfNQ36
About us
EcoFlight educates and advocates for the protection of remaining wild lands and wildlife habitat using small aircraft. The aerial perspective and our educational programs encourage an environmental stewardship ethic among citizens of all ages. Founded in 2002, EcoFlight provides a commanding platform to the tremendous challenges we are facing in conservation in the twenty-first century. The objective aerial perspective helps passengers become good practitioners of their tasks and encourages them to learn from one another in order to advance conservation campaigns. EcoFlight is devoted to connecting people and organizations in the plane. Facilitating dialogue in the plane provides a rapid way to share ideas with over 400+ different conservation partners, from grass-roots to national organizations, working to ensure the long-term protection of wildlands and wildlife habitat, and, in the process, working to halt climate change across the West. Flights will be used to connect diverse groups, even those with opposing opinions, to help share ideas that will promote effective land conservation tools and strategies. Flights with diverse passenger loads will help inspire collaboration between unlikely partners, and communicate values important to all Americans, those associated with clean water, fishing, hunting and hiking, and those acknowledging the value of cultural and historical landscapes. Conservation is a bipartisan issue. Flights emphasize why fossil fuels should stay in the ground, and ensure that renewable energy siting does not affect wildlife or wild lands. Overflights will empower and impact passengers and will ultimately serve to strengthen the land conservation movement in the West, leading to more durable and effective resource protection.

Recently, I was invited to join a flight hosted by EcoFlight and the Wilderness Workshop. We got a bids eye view of the Roan Plateau, Bookcliffs, and Hogback range between Rifle and the Utah boarder. The natural beauty is unparalleled, but the impact by industry is prominent. #publiclands #conservation #wildlife #makeadifference

Went on my first EcoFlight to check out the Santa Cruz River. I was inspired by the unique opportunity to witness our landscape from this perspective. From the plane, you can see that the river, sky islands, and desert have been beautifully carved by wind and water over thousands of years. However, I was deeply unsettled by the scale of the mine. The Wilderness Society is part of a community-led coalition to designate a National Urban Wildlife Refuge along the Santa Cruz River. Learn more at santacruzriver.org

Amplifying Access: Closing the Nature Gap and Fostering Inclusivity in Outdoor Education and Recreation Opportunities
Hi, All. I NEED your collective help! Please share this post, like, and comment for visibility. Thank you for your support in advance! Rising Routes, alongside University of Colorado Boulder Masters of the Environment (MENV) Capstone Project, is conducting a research study on equity in outdoor recreation and education providers across Colorado. The goal is to enhance collaboration and support for outdoor educational and recreational providers of underrepresented peoples in the state. We are seeking decision-makers, executive directors, or leaders of outdoor education or recreation organizations to complete a short questionnaire (https://lnkd.in/gECd-ERB) to help us gather valuable insights. The questionnaire, designed by esteemed organizations like The Wilderness Society, Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), Next 100 Colorado, The Donnell-Kay Foundation, Colorado Parks and Wildlife should take about 30 minutes to complete. Your participation will aid in shaping local and statewide decision-making processes. Upon completion, selected individuals may be contacted for a brief interview to delve deeper into their responses. Their input will play a crucial role in informing policies, planning, and development strategies. By participating, you will be entered into a draw to win a $100 Visa Gift Card and a strategic coaching session with the Rising Routes team to advance your organizational goals valued at $1,500. #Outdoors #Survey #EquityintheOutdoors #DiversifytheOutdoors #DEI #OpportunitiesForAll #GetOutside

The Amargosa Basin from above! Thanks for flying with us Jennifer Morris. TNC and our partners are advocating to protect this fragile ecosystem, home to more than 25 species that live nowhere else on earth. Help protect this special place from mining - sign the petition: https://lnkd.in/gh3J5Zyv
Last month, Jen Morris, CEO of The Nature Conservancy, joined our state director Mauricia Baca on an EcoFlight over the Amargosa Valley to learn more about this incredible landscape and the opportunities for renewable energy development while protecting native species and water resources.

#GreatBendoftheGila #RespectGreatBend #VisitwithRespect #Monumentsforall

Seeing the Great Bend of the Gila from a new perspective!
Last week I worked with my incredible #RespectGreatBend coalition partners to host an EcoFlight event over the Great Bend of the Gila landscape. ✨ Stakeholders from Tribes, members of the media, community leaders, and business partners came together to experience the landscape through a new lens, share their stories, and discuss why it is imperative to protect this special place. Join the movement, sign the petition, and get involved in supporting the effort to establish the Great Bend of the Gila National Monument today! Big thanks to EcoFlight for making the day such a success.
