We take the guessing out of the college process

About us

Educational Awareness' mission is to assist students and their families as they focus on college. Through this process, we build each student's self-esteem while guiding them to find the best path to the undergraduate or graduate college of their choice. We help students learn to think critically and develop the tools they need to succeed on the standardized tests - ACT, SAT, GRE- and navigate through the college admission process and the transition to college. With improved self-confidence, students can approach these exams with less anxiety, which generally results in superior test performance. Each member of the Educational Awareness team strives to create a stress-free environment, so students can look forward to learning during each session and leave our test preparation program feeling empowered. The EA team recognizes that transitioning from high school to college is challenging for most students, and our goal is the remain an effective resource for students throughout the college process.

  • I was working with a student to help her sign up for the March SAT test. After setting up a college board account (which all students should do) we proceeded to look for a school to take the test. Guess what? Many of the sites for the March test are already filled. If you plan on taking the test in March, register now! Let me correct some misinformation. Your school will not create a college board account for you. Your school will not sign you up for a test (it costs $68 ). Your school can not "get you in" if College Board says there are no openings. College Board controls the SAT. They make the rules. Do not wait until after the holidays. The March test is the most popular one in our area. Happy Pre-Holiday Chaos!

This is the time to get a handle on the upcoming months. Time flies. Don't get caught behind the eight-ball. Contact us at Educationallyaware@gmail.com or call 845-582-0017. We are happy to help.

  • It's almost over. Summer, I mean. But that does not mean you missed your opportunity to get a jump on the college application process. EA applications are not due until November 1 and regular decision isn't due until January 1. Before your senior year gets too crazy, start your common app and essay today. Remember, if you are a junior, standardized tests are making a comeback. Look at your schedule of activities (sports, drama, clubs) and decide when you can squeeze in a six-week prep for the SAT or a five-week prep for the ACT. Junior year is also a great time to start visiting colleges. If you need assistance creating a list, the counselor at EA would be more than happy to help. #college #collegeapp #CollegeBound

  • So, I met a sweet young lady on my walk today. After a brief interaction, I found out she was a rising senior and in the college process. Of course, I asked her what her college essay was about. She explained all the topics she was trying to include (sports, family, school, job) and then said, "It's too complicated to explain." My response was, "Let's make it simple. What three character traits will your admission counselor learn about you from your essay?" She said, 'That's easy. I am adaptable, I love my family and I am....." Nothing! I said," Adaptability is a good trait, but everyone loves their family. Go back and list your top personality traits, pick one topic to write about, and you will have a good essay." It doesn't have to be complicated. It doesn't need to contain metaphors. It doesn't need to be a huge event. If you need a hand, EA can help. Educational Awareness At EA we strive to make the college process easy!!!
