About us
At Double Jack Design Workshop, we consider ourselves crafters and makers, not just as architects or designers. Having experience on the other side of the proverbial drawing board gives us unique insight into the logistics behind a design. We are 'hands-on' architects, understanding our work is more than creating behind a screen. This means to better understand your project, we get out of the office to walk your site, meet with you to brainstorm ideas, and set design goals. Our job doesn't end at design, but carries through until you have keys in hand -- and answering any questions you have along the way. To say we are passionate about architecture would be an understatement. Our architects and designers have experience working within a variety of budgets and schedules, while maintaining the quality of our craft. We believe that functionality and aesthetic can go hand-in-hand and look forward to working with clients that share in that belief.

Duluth's Lake Superior Zoo is building a new pavilion -- we're stoked to be a part of it! The pavilion will support new gatherings of all sorts, backgrounded by this lush site and nearby Kingsbury Creek. The timber-framed structure harmonizes with its environment while providing subtle interest. Rendering by NOMINN David Booth Jacob Zikmund Jacob Kieper

We faced multiple challenges, namely sixteen feet of grade changes in two directions, bedrock near the surface, and a small buildable lot. The design intent is to build a simple structure with minimal impact on the site. The Little-Mod will bring increased density and choice to St. Paul. If you’d like to hear more about this project, or our work in Minneapolis-St. Paul and beyond, drop us a line. We’d love to hear from you. Rendering by NOMINN Jacob Kieper Jacob Zikmund David Booth

The Nordic aesthetic, featuring the simple materials of wood and large format panels, is meant to complement its surroundings, not compete with them. The building faces south with large openings to bring in ample amounts of natural light and passive heating in the winter. The Little-Mod will be all electric and solar-panel ready, producing as much, if not more, energy than it uses. The project is targeting a Zero Energy Building that pairs a high-performing building envelope with intelligent mechanical systems. Energy modeling will play a big role in the building envelope’s overall design, along with the quality of windows and doors. Rendering by NOMINN Jacob Kieper Jacob Zikmund David Booth

The Little-Mod helps to address the housing shortage while still providing a beautiful place to live. Community-oriented living increases density, creates naturally affordable rents, and provides greater housing options for residents. Rendering by NOMINN Jacob Kieper Jacob Zikmund David Booth

The Little-Mod’s goal is to provide affordable housing, increase density, and an achieve a zero- energy building. We’re offering high-end living that produces more energy than it uses. The building will feature the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home certification, essentially giving the environment a little kiss on the head. This co-living duplex will feature six co-living bedroom & bathroom suites per unit for a total of twelve suites. Rendering by NOMINN Jacob Kieper Jacob Zikmund David Booth

The Little-Mod – one of our newest projects – is bringing something new to Minnesota. We’re bringing co-living to St. Paul. A housing typology often seen on the coasts, it's coming to the West Seventh neighborhood of St. Paul as an urban infill development. This project has us excited, to say the least.
