DoD Releases Solicitation for Advanced Dynamic Spectrum Sharing Demonstration (ADSSD) The Department of Defense (DOD), in partnership with the National Spectrum Consortium (NSC), has released a Request for Prototype Proposal (RPP) for the Advanced Dynamic Spectrum Sharing Demonstration (ADSSD) Statement of Objectives (SOO). Effective management of spectrum is essential to the Nation’s national security and economic interests. The ADSSD solicitation calls for industry to develop a capability or technology that will demonstrate the effectiveness of spectrum-sharing enablers and the viability of DSS to enable coexistence within the 3100-3450 MHz band while adhering to the conditions in DoD’s 2023 Emerging Midband Radar Spectrum Sharing report. Proposals are encouraged to satisfy as many of the three Statement of Objectives as feasible. The objectives were informed by the spectrum sharing Courses of Action (COAs) developed by government, industry, and academia through the Partnering to Advance Trusted and Holistic Spectrum Solutions (PATHSS) Task Group. The findings of this effort will be used to inform future government sharing studies in the Lower 3 GHz (3100-3450 MHz) band. For more information go to: https://lnkd.in/gGYkC3WV

The DoD CIO is excited to announce that, effective 16 Dec, Mr. David McKeown is appointed the CIO Special Assistant for Cybersecurity Innovation; Mr. Gurpreet Bhatia will assume the duties of Acting Deputy CIO for Cybersecurity and Acting DoD CISO. Mr. McKeown will begin work to develop and oversee a DoD CIO Cybersecurity Center of Excellence to focus on the long-range, complex challenges of innovation in this critical area. The cyber threat landscape is growing and rapidly evolving. Real-world events highlight the complexity of daily cybersecurity operations; however, the nature of the threat means we must also have a robust and adaptive approach to cybersecurity innovation. We must fundamentally change how we do business to meet these simultaneous challenges. Establishing this new office divorces the day-to-day activities such as Zero Trust implementation, Defense Industrial Base Cybersecurity programs, and policy development from the requirement to look over the horizon and take on the following cybersecurity threat. With the Special Advisor for Cybersecurity Innovation, we are building an office to create transformational breakthroughs and drive strategic invention in Cybersecurity. Dave McKeown's extensive DoD cybersecurity experience, depth of knowledge, and leadership experience make him the only possible choice to lead this groundbreaking new effort. The Office of Special Assistant will report directly to the DoD CIO leadership team and be responsible for a spectrum of programs and operations to ensure DoD is prepared to meet future challenges in an evolving battlespace.

It's Official! #CMMC 2.0 completed its 60-day Congressional Review period without any changes. Rulemaking is now complete and the new program is in effect. Companies should now begin working towards their CMMC certifications and C3PAOs can begin assessments in accordance with the guidance in the rule. Just a reminder, CMMC requirements will not be included in DoD contracts until the DFARS is revised through a 48 CFR rule change is complete and effective. This week the DoD CIO presented annual awards to individuals and teams from across the Joint Force and Federal partners for their work to advance the Department's highest IT and Cyber priorities. This is the 24th year the CIO Awards have been presented and it was the strongest year for both participation, 86 individuals and teams were nominated by their commands, and awardee impact. DOD CIO recognized eight individual awardees and 15 teams. Awards were presented for projects ranging from the creation of new tools and processes to enable the National Air and Space Intelligence Center's mission to the creation and implementation of a Vulnerability Management System to improve cybersecurity of more than 23,000 end user systems. LTG Paul Stanton, DISA Director and CDR, JFHQ DoDIN, provided the keynote to the audience of more than 100 leaders from across the Department. DoD Chief Information Officer announces that, in partnership with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), the completed a study of the Lower 37 GHz band (37-37.6 GHz). This study paves the way for a co-equal, shared-use framework for government and commercial users in this "innovation band." It represents the first deliverable under the National Spectrum Strategy directive to examine a key set of bands to ensure U.S. leadership in spectrum-based services now and into the future. #spectrum #5G

From 19 November 2024 to 21 November 2024, Mr. Mark Gorak, Principal Director for Resources & Analysis, OCIO, visited San Antonio, TX where he met with the 960th/688th/and 67th Cyberspace Wings stationed at Joint Base San Antonio – Lackland and participated in AFCEA International TechNet Alamo Ace Conference. While at these engagements, Mr. Gorak stressed the DoD’s responsibility to remain agile, flexible, and responsive to the evolving cyberspace. Among other messages, Mr. Gorak stressed that technology alone cannot safeguard American interests. For that reason, today, more than ever, the workforce remains the Department’s most critical asset. With that focus in mind, Mr. Gorak briefed audiences over the OCIO’s cyber workforce strengthening initiatives, giving participants the opportunity to raise questions about work role coding and the 8140 Qualification and Management Program’s implementation. These topics underscore the DoD’s commitment to force readiness by underlining its ongoing efforts to updating the Department’s personnel management systems, defining workforce qualification standards, and enforcing those standards throughout the DoD. This commitment to readiness will ultimately help strengthen the DoD’s cyber workforce recruitment and retention efforts to better equip and develop the nation’s cyber readiness posture.

The Department of Defense (DoD) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), and the Workforce Innovation Directorate (WID), are excited to announce the anticipated launch of the inaugural DoD Cyber Workforce Summit (CWS) 2025. Supported by AFCEA International, this Summit will take place on Thursday, 20 March to Friday, 21 March 2025 at the College of Information and Cyberspace, National Defense University in Washington, D.C. (300 5th Ave. SW, 20319) and feature keynote speakers, panel discussions, service workshops, and networking opportunities. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from leading experts, share their experiences and build valuable connections.
