This past weekend, we brought together over 30 fashion and tech talents for the first-ever MoMu Hackathon. Experts, students, and enthusiasts from Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, and the UK collaborated to create cutting-edge prototypes that brought MoMu’s study collection to life using technology. Over 48 hours, multidisciplinary teams explored the intersection of fashion, technology, and heritage, supported by coaches from MoMu, MASJIEN, Bakermat, Digital Fashion Archive, Maxlab - AP Hogeschool Antwerpen, Howest Cyber3Lab, and d_archive. The study collection—spanning 2,000 objects—served as the foundation, supplemented with 3D models, digital patterns, and textiles developed specifically for this hackathon. The results were nothing short of inspiring: 1) Guardians of Archives: A global movement blending VR, 3D design, and XR tech to preserve cultural heritage. Creators: Holly New, Tessa Wardenburg, Thomas De Paepe, and Yasmin Koppe. 2) The Quintessential Victorian: A universal Victorian dress template using AI and 3D modeling tools. Creators: Daniel J., Flora Miranda, Isabelle Udo, Lennert Goessens, and Nino van Lith. 3) Tormented Love: A poetic 3D animation weaving a love story between garments across eras. Creators: Anissa El-Azzouzi, Alessa Huybens, Philip Malmgren, and Svitlana Chunikhina. 4) Rags to Riches: Multilingual chatbots and personalized museum experiences using LLAMA and RAG tech. Creators: Duo Yang, Ioannis Dasoulas, Ruben Peeters, Xuemin Duan, Isabel D., and Tobias Hendrickx. We are incredibly proud of the creativity and collaboration that flourished during this weekend in Antwerp.
