  • The December issue of D Magazine is here! Dig into our cover story to read more about the continued surge of culinary newcomers opening their doors in Dallas. After dining his way through our city’s finest new openings, ranging from a $20 million steakhouse to a charming Indonesian takeaway, our food critic landed on a list of 11 of the Best New Restaurants in Dallas this year. Next, flip the page to take a look back at the culinary institutions and happenings in Dallas with five decades in review. From some of the greats and their openings, to shifts in chef setting up shop and even those who revolutionized grocery shopping in Dallas, we put together a comprehensive timeline of what has made the Dallas dining scene what it is today. Finally, transport back in time to the ‘60s and learn what it meant to be “Oak Cliff drunk” for a growing young man coming of age. From buzzing over a football stadium in an airplane to sneaking swigs of red wine from the local church, the tale is a love letter to the neighborhood that raised him. Subscribe to get the December issue here: https://lnkd.in/gY9B3AT7

We recently hosted a #volunteer day with D Magazine for their staff to film videos about their careers for our Video Library. They welcomed CareerSpring's Gretchen Richter and Sophia Stoller to create Career Videos, where our team recorded with professionals across their company, from editors to graphic designers–exposing Advisees to a variety of new career paths in the creative industry. After this experience, Will Smith of D Magazine shared, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with CareerSpring…With many first-generation students in Dallas, we are excited to provide job and internship opportunities and further our mission of making Dallas an even better place—a goal CareerSpring helps us achieve.” We are so grateful for their collaboration in this initiative and to all who volunteered their time to provide new resources for CareerSpring Advisees! Visit www.CareerSpring.org/news to read more about this partnership and the difference we're making for #FGLI students and graduates across the United States.

  • Cycling from the Katy Trail to the Trinity River was a real drag until some Dallas artists painted the way. If you’ve ever been to the Meddlesome Moth or Virgin Hotels Dallas, you’ve been on Hi Line Drive. But you might be surprised to know that the short, landscaped boulevard isn’t just a challenging place to park; it’s the only thing connecting the Katy Trail to the Trinity Strand Trail along Turtle Creek. Read why this is such a big deal for cyclists and amblers: https://lnkd.in/gKv82jDk

  • Thinking about death, some will argue, helps us live a more purposeful life. With that idea in mind, we ate cake at an Oak Lawn death café, talked to our city’s new death doulas, learned how to host a home funeral, considered our body disposition options (water cremation, anyone?), nailed down the biggest estate planning pitfalls, dug into our rights as funeral home consumers, and scored an exit interview with Dallas’ chief medical examiner. Check out “How to Die in Dallas” from the November issue of D Magazine.

  • The November issue of D Magazine is here. In our cover story, we shine a light on humanity’s darkest subject. “How to Die in Dallas” is your guide to making a gracious goodbye so you can live it up till time runs out. Inside this feature, we eat cake at a death cafe, take a crack at Swedish death cleaning, meet Dallas’ new death doulas, and learn how to hold a home funeral. Next, flip the page to read about Dallas’ most notable potion makers. Meet the local bartenders serving up custom cocktails across the city and honing the art of crafting bitters, infusing vermouth, reverse-engineering the recipe for Aperol, and more. After starting his career playing gigs across Deep Ellum in the early ‘90s with local groups like Pop Poppins, Course of Empire, and Toadies, drummer and Fort Worth native Michael Jerome’s career took flight. Now, the artist boasts nearly 100 performing credits and recordings. Subscribe to get a copy of the November issue today here: https://lnkd.in/gY9B3AT7
