What are hiring managers really looking for in skill-based roles? When hiring for skill-based positions, it’s about more than just checking off qualifications—it’s about finding the perfect balance of technical expertise, adaptability, and growth potential. From our experience, here are the 7 things hiring managers pay attention to: - Relevant skills. Practical know-how often outweighs formal titles or degrees. - Real-world experience. Hands-on projects and problem-solving stand out more than formal credentials. - Transferable skills. Adaptable expertise adds significant value to any team. - Certifications. Credentials demonstrate a commitment to staying current and excelling. - Soft skills. Communication, teamwork, and problem-solving remain essential. - A passion for learning. Employers value those eager to grow and adapt. - Resume tailoring. Focused resumes show you understand the role’s priorities. Skill-based hiring isn’t just about filling a role—it’s about building a team that drives results. Hiring managers are looking for contributors and collaborators who can grow with the company, not just employees. For candidates, this is your roadmap to standing out. For hiring managers, it’s a reminder to focus on what truly aligns with the role. Christmas is a great time to pause, recharge, and reset our hearts and minds, and it serves as a reminder of the simple joys that often get overlooked in the rush of daily life. As you gather with loved ones and enjoy the warmth of the holidays, take a moment to reflect on the past year. We know that work can sometimes feel overwhelming, and even the most thriving professionals face challenges. Yet, this season invites us to embrace rest, grace, and the opportunity to recenter. As we celebrate Christmas, let’s carry with us a spirit of hope and gratitude with prayers like this: O' Lord, may we find joy in the quiet moments, your love in our relationships, and unwavering faith for the year ahead. Let our hearts be filled with gratitude for the blessings of this season. And as Isaiah 9:6 says, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given... and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas filled with rest, peace, and renewal!

Don’t wait for January—start reflecting now! Here’s your “CRG Hot Take” for the holidays: Don’t wait until January to update your resume. Start now—it’s not even about job hunting. Reflecting on your accomplishments is a great way to see how far you’ve come in 2024 and prepare for a strong start to 2025. Think of it this way: - What new skills or responsibilities did you take on this year? - Are there moments you’re especially proud of that should shine on your resume? - What does your growth this year reveal about where you want to go next? Updating your resume is more than a task—it’s a moment of clarity. It’s about recognizing your growth, celebrating wins, and adding the new skills and responsibilities you’ve taken on this year. It might reveal you’re exactly where you need to be or show areas for change. Either way, you’ll gain a better understanding of your career path. Reflection like this doesn’t just prepare you for a job search—it empowers you to feel confident, whether you’re thriving in your current role or exploring new opportunities. And if 2025 feels like the year for a career move, you’ll already have done the hard work. If you need help with updating your resume or exploring your next steps, we’d love to be part of your journey. How do you reflect on your career during the holidays? #CareerReflection #ResumeTips #ProfessionalGrowth #UpdateYourResume #YearInReview #PersonalDevelopment #NextSteps #CRG #CrossResourceGroup

Your brand matters to candidates! In today’s job market, workplace culture isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a game-changer. Candidates no longer choose employers solely based on salary—they’re looking for alignment with a company’s reputation, values, and culture. A strong employer brand bridges that gap. By showcasing your workplace culture, work-life balance, and growth opportunities, mid-sized businesses can attract top talent and build a foundation for long-term success. Here are three questions to consider about your employer brand: - Are your team’s values clear and visible to potential candidates? - Are you actively using social media, career pages, and employee stories to highlight what makes your workplace unique? - Is your culture strong enough to inspire your team to become advocates for your brand? When employees feel valued and aligned with your culture, they’re more likely to stay, contribute, and thrive. Building a strong culture isn’t just about employee happiness—it’s about fostering innovation and resilience. Employees who connect deeply with their company’s mission and values don’t just stick around—they help drive your business forward. By consistently sharing team achievements, promoting your values, and celebrating your culture, you create a brand that not only attracts great talent but turns your current team into enthusiastic advocates. What about you? Have you ever chosen to work for a company because of its culture? #EmployerBranding #WorkplaceCulture #CultureMatters #MissionDrivenHiring #CRG #CrossResourceGroup

What separates a headhunter from a career matchmaker? It's really about the company’s or candidate’s primary goal. In this illustration, Jimmy Hamilton is the headhunter. Picture him in camo, on a high-stakes mission to track down top talent wherever it hides. For headhunters, it’s all about the thrill of the hunt and making that big placement. This approach focuses primarily on finding candidates who meet the technical requirements of the position. Then there’s Sarah Jordan, the career matchmaker. She’s more about connection than conquest. Think of her as the ultimate professional cupid, pairing candidates with companies that align on both values and vision. Her primary focus is the culture of the company and aligning potential candidates with the goals of both the business and the individual. The headhunter approach delivers results based on skill and qualifications. It’s a binary method that some companies need. Career matchmakers, however, perform the real magic. It’s not just about filling a role—it’s about creating partnerships that last. Which approach do you think builds stronger teams?

While you're away with family, resting and retreating, take a moment to reflect. This season offers us a chance to reset our minds and hearts, reminding us of the importance of pause amidst the busy rhythms of work and life. We know that sometimes the workplace can feel hard to enjoy, and every professional experiences moments of discouragement. Yet, it’s in these moments that we can take heart. Today, let's embrace rest, grace, and the opportunity to refocus and recenter. As we gather around the table this Thanksgiving, let’s carry with us a spirit of gratitude. Here’s a prayer inspired by Every Moment Holy: "May we find peace in the quiet moments, grace in our interactions, and strength in our community. Let our hearts be filled with gratitude for the blessings we often overlook." And as Psalm 92 reminds us, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High.” Wishing everyone a restful and reflective Thanksgiving! #Thanksgiving #Holidays #CrossResourceGroup #Recruiting

You might remember Jimmy from back in the day, riding around on his beach cruiser, always stopping to chat. He’s our CEO, and no matter where he is—especially in a crowd of Aggies—he’s making friends. Jimmy always finding a way to connect with people at the tailgates behind the George Bush Library. Doesn’t matter if you’re an Aggie or not—everyone’s welcome. You’ll never pass the Hamilton RV without a pause for conversation... and maybe a beer. “Anyone’s welcome at the tailgate—as long as they’re polite and nice.” – Jimmy Hamilton, Class of '90 #Networking #Aggies #SEC #CrossResourceGroup

Meet Joseph Hudgins! As our Recruiting Manager here at CRG, Joe is the driving force behind our recruiting team’s success. With a knack for training and leadership, he plays a central role in guiding our recruiters and ensuring they meet both quarterly and yearly goals. Joe brings over four years of recruiting experience to the table, backed by a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. His professional passion shines in his dedication to supporting his team and fostering strong client-candidate relationships. Our clients consistently commend Joe for his ability to connect with candidates, skillfully matching the right people with the right roles—quickly and efficiently. Outside of work, Joe’s focus shifts to his family. He and his wife share a lively home with their three kids: five-year-old twin boys and a fifteen-year-old daughter. Together, they cherish time spent at the beach or mountains, making the most of their summer vacations. Family Fridays are sacred, with movie nights that help everyone unwind after a busy week. Joe is also an avid college football fan (go Oregon Ducks!) and never passes up an opportunity to travel to Nashville, TN, or Asheville, NC, to spend quality time with loved ones. When he’s not cheering for his favorite team, you might find him in his backyard, perfecting his smoked meats—a talent that’s just as refined as his knack for finding the perfect candidate fit! Joe’s commitment to both family and career embodies the values we hold dear at CRG. We're grateful to have him leading our recruiting efforts, helping us—and our clients—find success at every step. #SupportAndGrowth #Hiring #Recruiting #CrossResourceGroup #StaffingFirm
