Pralav Shetty was rightly giving me a hard time a couple months ago. We hadn’t codified and communicated what we stand for. This was true. And it was my fault. So, I finally did what I should have done long ago. I put down on paper The Covalent Way. It is a work-in-progress. Attached is rev 2. It is not short, I know. Brevity is not my forte. To a certain degree, these 10 tenets collectively describe Covalent's culture today. We are a service business, and The Covalent Way tenet #1 is “We are here to serve.” The service business is not for everyone. But it is who we are, and it is at the heart of our culture. Our culture is in turn driving growth and market share gains. 7 years into our corporate journey, we are a profitable company with 70 employees, >400 customers. 2024 revenues will be up >50%. It seems as if the great majority of our customers genuinely enjoy working with us. However, if we are very honest with ourselves, there is little doubt that in some areas, and to varying degrees, The Covalent Way is also aspirational. We are not fully and consistently true to the core beliefs. In that sense, this will be our North Star (credit to Taras Turiv for that one). I presented The Covalent Way rev 1 at our November All Hands. That discussion made it better, I think. One month has passed, and it is Interesting to see how quickly it has become part of our daily lexicon. People are referring to it in striking deals with customers. In hiring and firing decisions. In our year-end HR process. Clearly I should have done this years ago. Live and learn. Hope some of you find it useful. And to those among you who are our customers, I have a favor to ask. If you have an experience with Covalent that feels inconsistent with The Covalent Way please contact me (privately, if you don’t mind). I would like to know how we can keep getting better.
