    Founder & CEO, Covalent Metrology

Pralav Shetty was rightly giving me a hard time a couple months ago. We hadn’t codified and communicated what we stand for. This was true. And it was my fault. So, I finally did what I should have done long ago.  I put down on paper The Covalent Way. It is a work-in-progress. Attached is rev 2. It is not short, I know. Brevity is not my forte. To a certain degree, these 10 tenets collectively describe Covalent's culture today. We are a service business, and The Covalent Way tenet #1 is “We are here to serve.” The service business is not for everyone. But it is who we are, and it is at the heart of our culture. Our culture is in turn driving growth and market share gains. 7 years into our corporate journey, we are a profitable company with 70 employees, >400 customers. 2024 revenues will be up >50%. It seems as if the great majority of our customers genuinely enjoy working with us.  However, if we are very honest with ourselves, there is little doubt that in some areas, and to varying degrees, The Covalent Way is also aspirational. We are not fully and consistently true to the core beliefs. In that sense, this will be our North Star (credit to Taras Turiv for that one). I presented The Covalent Way rev 1 at our November All Hands. That discussion made it better, I think. One month has passed, and it is Interesting to see how quickly it has become part of our daily lexicon. People are referring to it in striking deals with customers. In hiring and firing decisions. In our year-end HR process. Clearly I should have done this years ago. Live and learn. Hope some of you find it useful. And to those among you who are our customers, I have a favor to ask. If you have an experience with Covalent that feels inconsistent with The Covalent Way please contact me (privately, if you don’t mind). I would like to know how we can keep getting better. Your Truly, Craig Hunter 408-679-1276 craig@covalentmetrology.com

  • This promises to be a very good YouTube series introducing semiconductor technology and semiconductor manufacturing. ASML builds arguably the most complex machines ever built - tools that are already having an enormous impact on the world, and which will continue helping TSMC, Samsung Semiconductor and Intel Corporation push the boundaries of materials and device engineering to the limits of what is possible. If you are looking for a way to explain chips to your family and friends, we are betting that our friends at ASML will make it pretty accessible.

Nov 20 seminar - Compact Ti:Sapphire Lasers for On-Chip Photonics Registration: https://lnkd.in/gVJFGnGT Research at Stanford has enabled a three-orders-of-magnitude reduction in the cost and footprint of a key laser technology. Greatly simplifying applications such as optical frequency combs, two-photon microscopy, and experimental quantum optics. And enabling new applications, such as massively scalable Ti:sapphire laser-array systems. Please join us for an in-person lunchtime seminar with Joshua Yang, CEO and Co-Founder of Brightlight Photonics. At Covalent Metrology in Sunnyvale. #laser #photonics

🚀 Dynamic mechanical properties are crucial in the development and quality control of polymeric thin films. Given the small material volume, dynamic nanoindentation is often the most suitable method for determining these properties. 💥 Our joint application report, realized thanks to our collaboration with Covalent Metrology, shows the use of the UNHT³ for dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) of polymers at elevated temperatures. ✅ The Sinus mode, applied at different temperatures to an epoxy film, allowed to determine its viscoelastic properties and study its hardening process. 🔗 For all the details, check out the full Application Report! https://bit.ly/3UZ1FbD   #antonpaar #covalentmetrology #materialsscience #indentationtesting #nanoindentation #polymers #dynamicmechanicalanalysis

  • 🌎✨ 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀' 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 ✨🌎 Today, we honor the immense contributions of native communities—not only to the cultural fabric of our world but also to breakthroughs in #STEM and #MaterialsScience. As we celebrate Native peoples' legacy as scientific innovators, we wanted to highlight just a few of the many inspiring Native American researchers and engineers throughout the last century: - 𝙁𝙡𝙤𝙮 𝘼𝙜𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙇𝙚𝙚 (of the Tewa Pueblo) worked on the Manhattan project and pioneered biomedical research into the physical effects of radiation exposure on human chromosomes. - 𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝘽𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙮 (of the Navajo Nation) had a nearly 30-year tenure researching thermonuclear fusion in the Los Alamos National Laboratory's laser program, following his work with NASA's high-energy gamma ray project. - 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙂𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙖 𝙍𝙤𝙨𝙨 (of the Cherokee Nation) helped design early, top-secret spacecraft that would later pave the way for NASA's Apollo missions. - 𝙅𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝘾. 𝙀𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙩𝙩 (of the Osage and Cherokee Nations) would serve on those Apollo missions as a Flight Mission Operations Engineer, where he played a critical role in bringing the Apollo 13 crew safely home after the explosion of an oxygen tank famously aborted the mission. These exceptional individuals are only a small sampling of the Native American trailblazers in #STEM fields across history and today. We hope you'll join us to take today to learn, listen, celebrate, and support indigenous voices, science, and innovation now and always. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #IndigenousInnovation
