  • With smoke billowing into the air, flames engulfing the exits, and panicked onlookers unsure how to help, two people were trapped in an upstairs apartment with no foreseeable escape route. One Sailor, who happened to be nearby, saw the smoke and pulled off the road to see if anyone needed help. When he saw the scene, his instincts kicked in. Electronics Technician (Nuclear) 1st Class Gabriel Journey, stationed aboard the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Albany (SSN 753) was driving to the airport to pick up his spouse when he saw the smoke and decided to investigate.
