We celebrated a bittersweet moment this week. Five of our dedicated staff members retired! Together, they have about 170 years of service under their belts. We are proud to say Columbus Public Health is a place where people choose to stay for decades. We will miss each of them. Dr. Mysheika Roberts is celebrating her 7th year as Columbus Health Commissioner. Here's to many more years of service to our community! During her tenure, she’s provided great leadership to protect our community during COVID-19, the largest measles outbreak in the U.S. in 2022 and mpox among many other public health issues. This year, she was instrumental in Columbus Public Health receiving the NACCHO Champion of Local Governmental Public Health Award.

Let’s welcome Dr. Lisa White to Columbus Public Health! She’s our first FUSE Executive Fellow! FUSE is a national nonprofit that works with local government agencies to advance racial equity and address challenges faced by urban communities. Each FUSE Fellow is given a special project. Dr. White will be with us over the next year learning about our behavioral health programs and helping us determine how we can best serve our community and if our work needs to be expanded further. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio selected the Mobile Crisis Unit for the 2024 Polaris Community Service Award! The award exemplifies exceptional innovation, collaboration and dedication in community service. The Mobile Crisis Response Unit pairs Columbus police officers and Columbus Public Health social workers to de-escalate and stabilize crisis situations. The team then connects patients to resources and follow up care. Their proactive outreach efforts have increased the number of positive interactions among the community and law enforcement.
