How do you go from being a total beginner to a maintainer of a Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) project? One of the most inspiring interviews I got to record in KubeCon India was with Prasanth Baskar, who got started contributing to open source 2 years ago and is now working closely with his mentor Vadim Bauer who is the maintainer of the CNCF project Harbor. Guess what? There are no shortcuts. Prasanth showed up, got involved, didn't back down from challenges, was patient, and is now paying it forward so others can have the same opportunities as him. What a wonderful event 🌟! We just concluded an insightful session titled "Getting Started as a CNCF Contributor" with CNCF Ambassador 🎙Bart Farrell and his former intern Anushka Saxena. The session was packed with valuable information on how to begin your contribution journey with CNCF projects. The key takeaway ? "Contributing to open source is not a race—it’s a rewarding journey to explore and enjoy!" We discussed CNCF programs like Zero to Merge, LFX Mentorship, and Google Summer of Code (GSOC). Also shared that applications for shadow roles in SIG Release 1.33 are now open! 🎙Bart and Anushka provided practical advice on what to do (and what to avoid!) when contributing, inspiring participants to take their first steps with confidence.
