Ciena is proud to have participated in the IP over DWDM Proof of Concept (PoC) recently completed by the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) Open Optical & Packet Transport (OOPT) project group under the guidance of the MANTRA subgroup. This PoC was built to evaluate the integration of ZR/ZR+ optics in an open disaggregated IP router through the standard OIF Common Management Interface or CMIS and the open management of the ZR/ZR+ coherent pluggable using the router’s management interface relying on OpenConfig-based NETCONF/gNMI open interface. Following a successful trial where KT transmitted and received data across its long-distance route between Seoul and Busan at 1.2 Tb/s, and at 1.6 Tb/s across its medium-distance route across Seoul and Cheonan, KT plans to deploy Ciena's WaveLogic 6 Extreme to accommodate ongoing customer demands for services beyond 400GbE: https://lnkd.in/eX5-mrGe.

Aqua Comms and Ciena have announced (https://bit.ly/3ONqCTW) the first-ever 1.3 Tb/s wavelength transmission spanning 5500km across the Atlantic. This technical milestone was achieved using Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e), the industry’s first fully programmable coherent technology capable of wavelength speeds up to 1.6Tb/s. The companies also obtained a second world-first, achieving 800 Gb/s wavelength transmission from USA to Ireland and back – a total unregenerated distance of over 11,000km.
