CEI helps school leaders vision for the future, alleviate trauma & create schools that promote equity, justice & courage
About us
The Center for Educational Improvement (CEI) identifies, shares, and applies 21st century innovations in learning to guide school leaders as they improve their schools. We advise principals, teachers, leadership teams, and districts on how to implement evidence-based best practices to “fast track” academic progress and close gaps between the latest research on student achievement and what is practiced in schools. CEI also collaborates with principal mentors to design, implement, evaluate, refine, and disseminate research with the principal in mind. As we build bridges to educational excellence, CEI teams with other researchers, private companies, and government agencies. Our research includes scanning the environment to curate and share information on the latest 21st century innovations in learning. We also design and conduct our own research studies to improve education. Our research in 2014 focuses on: (1) Adding rigor to classrooms to improve instructional leadership and make learning more exciting, alive, and relevant. This includes collaborating with engineers and others for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) improvements. (2)Using neuroscience research to accelerate learning (3) Leading schools to excellence in STEM (4) Promoting Heart Centered Education (our signature approach to social emotional learning focusing on compassion, courage, confidence, consciousness, and community) to equip students with the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills needed for success at school and throughout their lives

🌏 Reflections from Dr. Christine Mason’s Time with Lata Tulachan 🌿 Dr. Christine Mason’s transformative 14-day journey through Nepal wasn’t just about exploring breathtaking landscapes and building bridges of understanding, kindness, and shared purpose. From engaging with students and yoga teachers to learning about Nepal’s deep spiritual history, she experienced the power of humanity's collective resilience and compassion. Here’s how Nepal inspired her reflections on mindfulness, global community, and the 5Cs of CEI’s heart-centered learning: "My deepest thanks to Lata Tulachan who helped organize my 14 days in Nepal. Thanks to Lata I not only spent time with students, schools, and yoga teachers, but I also came to have a deeper understanding of the history of Kathmandu, the birthplace of Buddha, and the reverence for basic principles of kindness. Whether I was trekking up mountain steps, visiting a stupa, sipping ginger-honey-lemon tea, or weaving in and out of traffic for a two-hour journey to hilltop ayurvedic resort, I was surrounded with a conscious understanding of myself and others, a feelings of reciprocal compassion for our journey on this planet at this time, and a sense of the confidence, resilience, and courage of so many Nepalese people. And with teachers, staff, students, and yoga instructors, I found a sense of community as we shared our common commitments to youth, to our communities, and to our global connections. The 5Cs we write about so often at CEI were present as we shared from our hearts." Let’s continue fostering compassion, courage, and connection in every learning space. 💛✨ #MindfulLeadership #GlobalEducation #YogaInSchools #TransformativeLearning #CompassionateLeadership #WellnessInEducation #EducationForPeace #TeacherWellness #SocialEmotionalLearning #GlobalCollaboration #MindfulnessMatters #WellBeingJourney #PositiveEducation #CulturalExchange #HealingThroughYoga #ProfessionalDevelopment

🌿 Collaborating with Yoga Teachers Interested in Bringing Yoga to Schools in Kathmandu 🌿 During her transformative trip to Kathmandu, Dr. Christine Mason, the Founder and Senior Scholar of CEI, met with 20 passionate yoga teachers eager to integrate yoga into local schools. At a local studio, they explored CEI’s approach to cultivating happiness, resilience, and well-being through meditation, mindfulness, and movement. As Dr. Mason noted, "On a Saturday after I had presented on yoga at several schools, I met with a group of about 20 yoga teachers at a local yoga studio in Kathmandu. At the sessions I shared with them highlights of CEI’s approach (see our book Cultivating Happiness, Resilience and Well-Being through Meditation, Mindfulness, and Movement at https://lnkd.in/g--MDn_J). Over the course of three hours we joined hands as we chanted Aad Garey Nameh, Sat Guru Nameh, Siri Guru Deva Namah. This is a mantra for protection I learned as a kundalini yoga teacher. It essentially means “I bow to my inner guru (teacher), I bow to wisdom of the ages, I bow to true wisdom, I bow to the great unseen wisdom.” During our time together, we discussed the possibilities of continuing connections, and we had the time to breathe together and chant other mantras for peace and healing. It was uplifting to feel their spirit and enthusiasm for our work." Dr. Mason’s journey to Nepal was a profound exchange of wisdom, connection, and shared purpose, reinforcing the transformative power of mindfulness, yoga, and compassionate leadership in education. #MindfulLeadership #GlobalEducation #YogaInSchools #TransformativeLearning #CompassionateLeadership #WellnessInEducation #EducationForPeace #TeacherWellness #SocialEmotionalLearning #GlobalCollaboration #MindfulnessMatters #WellBeingJourney #PositiveEducation #CulturalExchange #HealingThroughYoga
