We cut the ribbon this week on Albany County’s first major solar photovoltaic (PV) ground-mount array on five acres of county property in the Town of Colonie! The 2.1-megawatt solar farm will generate nearly 3,000 MWh per year, equivalent to powering 270 homes. The solar project will be owned and operated by Calibrant Energy.
We're soaking up the sun in Albany County with a new solar array! Program Manager Christina Iwaniw, CEM joined Albany County, NY Executive Daniel P. McCoy, Colonie Town Supervisor Peter Crummey, and Calibrant Energy Project Manager Brad Richardson for a ribbon cutting on #AlbanyCounty's first major #solar photovoltaic ground-mount array in Colonie. The 2.1-MW #solar farm will generate more than 2.8 million kWh per year, which is equivalent to the #energy needed to to power 270 homes. Our Distributed Energy Resources team assisted with site analysis, managed the competitive bidding process, and provided ongoing support during contract execution and project installation. We also provided a $350,000 grant to assist with construction. “NYPA has been a leader in renewable energy generation for more than 60 years and was pleased to partner with Albany County on the new solar array project – the first of its kind in the County. This partnership will bring additional clean energy online in the Capital Region and support the State’s transition to a more renewable and resilient energy future". --NYPA President & CEO Justin E.
