As we enter the new year, how can all businesses take meaningful action on #Nature? 🌱 Companies need to shift their models and behaviors to protect and restore, rather than destroy nature, in order to contribute to halting and reversing #NatureLoss by 2030. Alongside partners, we’re supporting businesses to develop and publish credible nature strategies, through the ‘It’s #NowForNature’ Accelerator. Lasting six to eight months, each Accelerator program provides the essential tools, methodologies and subject matter expertise to equip participants with the skills to: 🌎 Conduct a materiality assessment to identify key nature-related impacts, dependencies, risks, and opportunities. 🌎 Set SMART targets aligned with these material factors. 🌎 Implement actions to achieve these targets and mitigate negative impacts on nature. 🌎 Secure C-suite or board approval and responsibility for the strategy’s delivery. 🚨 Environmentally harmful subsidies total at least $2.6 trillion annually. Our CEO, Eva Zabey recently spoke with the Planetary Responsibility Foundation, highlighting why reforming these subsidies is a crucial step for biodiversity and business resilience. New research from Earth Track, supported by Business for Nature, sheds light on the scale of the challenge. These subsidies prop up industries driving unintentional environmental degradation, instead of supporting the transition to a sustainable, #NaturePositive economy. Reforming the $2.6 trillion in environmentally harmful subsidies (EHS) is one of the most pressing challenges—and opportunities—of our time. Business can play a key role by understanding their own dependencies on EHS and to advocate for subsidy reform by setting an example in their own practices, shifting investments from extractive models to sustainable alternatives. Reformed subsidies could significantly accelerate progress toward meeting global biodiversity targets and mitigating the climate crisis, ensuring long-term economic stability. "We need to ensure that public funds are aligned with our biodiversity and climate commitments. Only through bold, collaborative action can we secure a sustainable future for all." 🌍 New Report: #NexusAssessment Today, IPBES launches its report on the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health, in the context of climate change (known as the “Nexus Report”). After 3+ years of development, with input from 165 international experts across 57 countries, the report highlights opportunities for action, uncovering complementarities and trade-offs relating to each. This report marks the first global synthesis of how these challenges overlap, identifying those most at risk and offering integrated solutions that benefit multiple sectors. It demonstrates how addressing one element can impact others – both positively and negatively, as well as identifying a wide range of response options that can be taken now to improve outcomes. Why does #Nature matter for businesses? 🌱 Nature’s critical role is being increasingly recognized by business and finance, from operations to value chains and investments. However, nature is in crisis, with our economic activities operating outside the safe zones of six out of nine planetary boundaries which keep Earth habitable. In our Business Case for Nature, we outline: 🌎 Three ways in which the destruction of #Biodiversity and #Ecosystems creates risks for businesses and: 🌎 How companies can use a growing set of guidance to start their #NaturePositive journey, or think about how they can accelerate action by setting a credible #NatureStrategy. There is no healthy business on an unhealthy planet. Business must take a lead and become part of the solution. 🔗 Learn more: https://ow.ly/UBrv50UkYvo

Breaking the cycle of harmful subsidies: a path to sustainability 🌱 $2.6 trillion - that’s how much is spent annually on subsidies that harm biodiversity, accelerate climate change, and degrade ecosystems. These subsidies, designed to support industries, are instead keeping us trapped in unsustainable practices. As Eva Zabey, CEO of Business for Nature, puts it: "The more people are dependent on these subsidies, the more the subsidies will remain, and we won’t be transitioning away." By redirecting public funds toward nature-positive solutions, we can protect the planet, foster sustainable industries, and ensure a just transition for communities worldwide. 💡 Dive into this week’s #NatureFinance article to discover Eva Zabey’s insights on breaking free from harmful subsidies and paving the way for a sustainable future. #NatureFinance #Sustainability #Biodiversity #SubsidyReform #ClimateAction #PRF
