🌍 New Report: #NexusAssessment Today, IPBES launches its report on the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health, in the context of climate change (known as the “Nexus Report”). After 3+ years of development, with input from 165 international experts across 57 countries, the report highlights opportunities for action, uncovering complementarities and trade-offs relating to each. This report marks the first global synthesis of how these challenges overlap, identifying those most at risk and offering integrated solutions that benefit multiple sectors. It demonstrates how addressing one element can impact others – both positively and negatively, as well as identifying a wide range of response options that can be taken now to improve outcomes. In the face of escalating environmental challenges, BioCarbon emphasizes the critical interconnection between Biodiversity and climate change, as highlighted in the 2024 World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report. This year, biodiversity loss is alarmingly ranked within the top four major global risks for the medium to long term, underlining the urgency for concerted action. In response, BioCarbon has developed comprehensive Biodiversity and GHG Crediting Programs aimed at mitigating these intertwined threats. As the Global Risks Report 2023-2024 underscores a deteriorating global outlook, with environmental risks dominating the landscape, our initiatives seek to address these pressing challenges head-on. 💡Nature-based Solutions can be an impactful tool for transformative change, and the current evidence is promising, but we need more informative evaluations of the full potential and impact of NBS! Have a summer read on how NBS can lead to transformative change below 📖 #NBS #naturepositive
🚨 Our latest desk study on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and transformative change is out! NbS are gaining traction as a tool to address the interconnected crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. But can they truly drive the transformative change that is needed? We've found that there is still a gap in the explicit assessment of different NbS outcomes and indicators of transformative change. Evidence is often incomplete and lacks comprehensive assessments across different scales and timeframes. Additionally, research tends to focus on specific biomes and regions. Despite these limitations, the available data strongly suggest a link between NbS interventions and transformative change. This underscores the urgent need for expanded research to better understand the full potential of NbS, including a broader geographic scope and a more precise definition of transformative change in NbS policies. 🌿𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆! At CSR Europe, we’re proud to spotlight the essential role of healthy soils in sustaining life, combating climate change, and supporting biodiversity. Soil is the foundation of our ecosystems, and its protection is key to preserving our global natural heritage. As part of our 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, we are taking meaningful action to address the urgent challenges of biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse—identified as one of the fastest deteriorating global risks in the World Economic Forum's 2023 Global Risks Report. 🤝 Together with our members, we are finalizing a 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, aiming to establish shared goals and strategies to empower businesses, policymakers, and communities. This White Paper will be published in January 2025 and will be an important step towards our common goals. 👉 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲? https://lnkd.in/dtAkJTGe #WorldSoilDay #BiodiversityAlliance #Sustainability #CSR #SoilHealth #ProtectBiodiversity #ActTogether #Engaged4Change

“Restoration projects are often driven by biodiversity goals. One of the challenges we face is that climate change mitigation can sometimes come into conflict with biodiversity efforts or objectives. We need to try to minimise trade-offs between ecological, social, and economic objectives.” 📚 Read more about the relation among #regeneration, #conservation, and #restoration in the editorial by our Scientific Committee member, Kris Murray, expert in #planetarychange science and #biodiversity: 👉🏼https://lnkd.in/dUcJsaGk If you want to make sure you don’t miss one, subscribe to our newsletter ⏩ https://lnkd.in/eeyw3a88 📸Yu Wang

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 & 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 The UN Biodiversity Conference is in full swing over in Columbia. Progress so far seems be slow; hopefully we will see a change before it ends. We know that ecosystem decline, and climate change are deeply interconnected. Addressing these issues together is crucial for effective, long-term solutions. On a positive note, there is increasing understanding of nature-based solutions (NbS) and natural climate solutions (NCS). Financial products such as carbon markets and biodiversity credits are gaining significance. However, they are not without their challenges; particularly in measuring their impact. Yet, their potential in addressing environmental issues is immense. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗼 '𝗜 𝗱𝗼'.

Migration: the missing link Migration is a topic dominating newsrooms from a political perspective, yet the real implications of global migration are closely connected to biodiversity, food systems, climate and more. This Science for a Sustainable Future session asks how we can effectively measure, predict and respond to migration, and what the research tells us about solutions for managing and adapting to population movement from across the disciplines. The panel, chaired by Editor in Chief of Nature Magdalena Skipper, will consider how migration can and should be involved in broader sustainability discussions, and the essential role of diverse representation in doing so.
