For the last few years, BUSPH researchers Jacey Greece and Jacqueline Milton Hicks Hicks have been studying the factors driving hunger and food insecurity across the country, resulting in the nation's largest dataset of its kind on food pantry clients. Their research demonstrates the high utilization and effectiveness of government benefits and contributes crucial findings to the field. An #ideahub pilot award funded by Aramark supported the preliminary research that turned into this valuable, long-term collaboration with the Greater Boston Food Bank. #foodinsecurity #publichealth #economicrecovery #healthequity #publichealthpolicy Read more: https://hubs.la/Q02_Q7yq0

Winter sports can be dangerous, but for more reasons than you think. BUSPH researcher Birgit Claus Henn recently published the first study to document internal PFAS levels in recreational skiers and snowboarders who are exposed to these harmful "forever chemicals" via multiple pathways, leaving them at greater risk of adverse health effects than the general population. This is an alarming finding in an otherwise healthy, well-resourced population. Further research investigating the body burden of PFAS will be crucial in continuing to reduce exposures. This research was supported by an #ideahub Established Investigator Innovation Award. #environmentalhealth #publichealth #PFAS Read more: https://hubs.la/Q02-WFfW0

December 1 is World AIDS Day. We revisit a study authored by BUSPH researcher Nina Brooks that examined how political decisions affect access to and utilization of global public health assistance, including lifesaving HIV/AIDS programs. When leaders neglect to protect the rights of people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS, these policies continue to have detrimental effects on already vulnerable communities. #WorldAIDSDay #globalhealth #publichealthpolicy #healthequity Read more: https://hubs.la/Q02ZJjfn0
