Our peptide team has once again demonstrated their expertise in tackling complex challenges. In just 7 weeks, we successfully completed a 42-step liquid-phase synthesis of 1 gram of MK-0616, a PCSK9-targeting reference peptide. BioCina is proud to be a key partner in a groundbreaking national Australian collaboration led by Defense Materials Technology Centre DMTC Ltd, alongside Griffith University and other esteemed institutions, such as The University of Western Australia, Australian Rickettsial Reference Laboratory and the New South Wales NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. This initiative is focused on developing a novel vaccine platform technology targeting critical pathogens that impact both military and civilian populations.   BioCina was asked to make a pivotal contribution as a global biologics CDMO in advancing this technology from lab-scale design to large-scale manufacturing. A major milestone has been achieved with the generation of a GMP-certified master cell bank for the Q Fever vaccine, setting the stage for future clinical translations.   As BioCina's VP of Business Development & Commercial Operations Jan Bekker noted, “Biopharma collaborations are essential. As if we needed proof that the pace of change is increasing in HealthTech, two stories back to back that highlight an issue, and a solution for some patients. One is a story from last week that Kiwis were missing out on effective cancer treatments that could extend their lives: [https://lnkd.in/g287jmax ] (paywall) Two is our announcement today that we are kicking off our investment plan to build out our bespoke manufacturing facility for CAR T-Cell therapies in Ōtautahi Christchurch, and in support of the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research programme to develop a low-cost and effective treatment to the people of Aotearoa New Zealand. Our partnership with the Malaghan is set to deliver a world first, and we are going to change the future of cancer care, one patient at a time with personalised medicine. The automated manufacturing process that we have developed, aims to make CAR T-cell therapy more accessible and affordable, potentially transforming it into a standard of care in New Zealand. Our goal is to ensure that all who could benefit from this innovative treatment can access it, regardless of their location or financial situation. As we move forward with this exciting project, we're not just investing in a facility – we're investing in the future of cancer care for New Zealanders. This initiative represents a significant step towards bridging the gap in cancer treatment accessibility for Kiwis. The journey ahead is challenging, but the potential to change lives is immense.
