We advocate to diversify the field of architecture, through exposure and workshops that connect with students.

About us

Our mission is to enhance and diversify the field of architecture by enticing, exciting, and encouraging students of color and minorities to pursue a career path within the architecture profession. As the United States has produced relatively few black architects historically, and an even smaller number of registered architects. This program aims to empower students to achieve their goals in pursuing a career in Architecture through mentorship and representation within the design industry. Workshops are led by diverse professionals with the purpose of awakening students’ interest in Architecture and Design. The workshops are customized to suit the needs of students and the organizations hosting them. Workshops vary in topics, utilizing creative games, presentations, model-making, hands-on activities, as well as computer modeling. The program incorporates field trips to architectural firm offices, notable buildings in the community, and museums. The program has successfully conducted multiple workshops, impacting over 300 students. While BAM began to better serve students in the African-American community, we encourage and welcome participants from all communities and backgrounds.

  • For over sixty years, Club Eaton was the vibrant heart of Eatonville, where locals gathered for nights of dancing and live music, featuring legends like James Brown and Aretha Franklin since its establishment in 1946. After closing its doors in 2008, exciting plans for restoration are now in motion, backed by a state grant to celebrate and preserve Eatonville’s rich cultural heritage. We are proud to have our board chair, Malcolm Jones, leading this crucial renovation effort. As the owner of MAJ Architecture and Design, his dedication and passion for honoring the legacy of Club Eaton drive this initiative, ensuring that its spirit will be revitalized for future generations.

  • Please join us in congratulating Malcolm Jones, NOMA, AIA, NCARB who has received the prestigious FIU Alumni 5 Under 35 Award! This honor recognizes young leaders who make significant contributions to their communities, and Malcolm exemplifies this dedication. His leadership and vision have greatly impacted our organization and inspired those around him. As an FIU alumnus, Malcolm continues to prove that passionate individuals can create meaningful change. • BAM extends our deepest gratitude to @drphillipscharities for their generous contribution to our summer camp series. This support allowed our students to immerse themselves in the field of architecture through various workshops and events at the Orlando Economic Partnership, Wilson & Girgenti, 4 Roots Farms, Neocity Academy, Epcot, and CityLab Orlando. We are grateful to Dr. Phillips Charities and our hosts for helping create a summer filled with learning, connection, and memorable experiences that will continue to inspire for years to come.

  • For the second year in a row, BAM joined the Youth Engineering Adventure (YEA) with Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC - The Reliable One) for the Popsicle Stick Tower Challenge. Students worked collaboratively, channeling their creativity to construct the tallest and most stable towers using only tape, popsicle sticks, and hot glue. The true test came when we subjected the towers to simulated earthquakes and hurricane-force winds. Witnessing the structures endure these challenges was truly inspiring, and we celebrated the event by awarding prizes to the most resilient designs. It was a day filled with excitement, teamwork, and laughter, and we are already looking forward to next year’s adventure!

  • Over the weekend, BAM and the @winterparklibrary united for a spectacular showcase of creativity at the annual Maker Day celebration. It was a day filled with inspiration as our students embarked on a collaborative mosaic project, fueling their passion for art and design. Each child brought their own unique flair, crafting architectural masterpieces. Individual creations blended together to form an elaborate mosaic mural that echoed the talent and imagination of our young artists. It is through these programs that we witness the true magic of artistic expression, fostering not only creativity but also a sense of community and shared accomplishment among our budding designers.
