Our BGE Scholars Program offers scholarships to full-time STEM majors at Maryland's Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Beyond financial support, we engage with over 70 scholars annually, offering career exposure and student development opportunities to prepare them for success in the energy sector. #NationalScholarshipMonth

This week, BGE celebrated 16 graduates of our 18-month Utility Training Class, who are now prepared for essential roles as gas service mechanics, line workers, and smart metering technicians. Congratulations to these talented individuals—their skills and commitment are vital to ensuring safe, reliable service for our customers.

BGE held its third-annual Innovation Awards honoring the innovators and innovations whose work over the past year helped strengthen BGE’s position as a recognized leader in the utility industry. Innovation pilot projects completed in 2024 are expected to generate more than $50 million in value for the company over the next five years.

The Motor Operated Switch (MOS) is one of the many ways BGE is innovating to improve reliability on its electric system. When installed on a residential underground switchgear as part of our Automated Restoration Scheme, the MOS can be operated remotely when a fault is detected on the line--eliminating the need for crews to manually operate the switch. This can significantly reduce the duration and size of a potential outage.

This #VeteransDay, we recognize Field Supervisor Jim Winbourne who has represented BGE and the Baltimore chapter of Exelon Military Actively Connected (EMAC) through volunteer events with various organizations such as Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET) and The Baltimore Station.
