BREAKING NEWS: Senate Passes Social Security Legislation Boosting Benefits for Certain Government Workers The legislation now heads to President Biden who has pledged to sign it. Although the bill does correct certain social security benefit inequities for some workers with a mix of public and private service it was not paid for. As such, the “date” for insolvency of the social security system will likely accelerate by approximately 6 months based on estimates. When that happens Social Security benefits for all recipients will be subject to mandatory reductions of roughly 21 percent unless Congress does something in the interim to address Social Security funding. Based on the most recent Social Security Trustees report that would potentially put the “Social Security Insolvency Date” somewhere toward the end of 2032 or beginning of 2033 which is right on top of a presidential election. Of course, one cannot possibly imagine that Congress will wait all the way till then to fix this enormous problem—right 😳
