The most compelling missions are usually deeply personal, and Seen Health is no exception. Twin brothers Yang Su and Xing S. experienced the limitations of senior care, and the overload that plagues family caregivers, firsthand. They became determined to build a senior care program they could gladly trust with their own grandparents, and Seen Health was born. Three years and countless hurdles later, their perseverance and ingenuity are poised to reset the bar for senior care, with their first center opening soon in California, and the creation of a pioneering, deeply integrated tech stack designed for a full range of clinical and back office workflows. Along the way, they’ve enlisted a fantastic team of medical and provider professionals to complement their technical and operational leadership. We’re often asked how AI has affected our investment thesis. Our new post, “The AI Services Wave: Lessons from Palantir in The New Age of AI”, by Joe Lonsdale, Drew Oetting, Sebastian Caliri, Jack Moshkovich, and Arthur James, is our most extensive answer to date. In this piece, we explore how the symbiosis of software and human-driven operations, as opposed to pure automation, will recapture costs as profits and create generational companies in the process. Based on some outstanding early examples, we propose a few simple - but not easy - rules of the road for building great tech-services companies. Going back even further, we also explore how Palantir’s dynamic ontology, introduced during the Java client era of the 2000s (when AI rarely worked!), is taking on new relevance in the AI age. “Ontology” may sound esoteric, but it’s fundamentally a form of mapping, which is especially important for tech-services companies that need to understand the complex relationship between their customers, employees, and systems. Hello Patient is addressing one of the foundations of quality care: communication. The platform elegantly combines advanced conversational AI with seamless compliance, access controls, and integrations, while capturing both structured health data and vital information that's usually scattered among whiteboards, sticky notes, and providers themselves. They're live today, and already making a difference for clinicians buried in administrative work and patients stuck waiting by the phone.
