'Tis the [business] season...for annual planning 📈
It's easy to get absorbed in business targets, revenue goals, and operational roadmaps. But how often do we use this time of year to stop and ask ourselves: how am I investing in myself and my team to achieve these ambitious goals?
This time of year isn't just for setting business goals - it's an opportunity to strategize how you will grow the people behind the numbers.
As you plan, consider how you will nurture a growth mindset across your organization. Ask yourself: Who could your team become on the other side of 29029?
It's not just about reaching new heights. It's about evolving into a team that's stronger, more resilient, and fully prepared to conquer Everest-sized goals on and off the mountain.
Registration opens on Thursday, November 14, 2024: https://lnkd.in/eEdGFFb#KEEPCLIMBING #29029
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
29029 events are often studded with badges and black bibs signifying alumni status. Combine that with how fast events sell out, and some people get the impression that everyone on the mountain is an alumni. But in reality, more than 60% of the people who climbed with 29029 this year were first-timers. People who are willing to put themselves out there. To commit to doing something outrageously hard, just to prove to themselves that they can 💪
Stratton 2024 was more than 80% first-timers. 210 people who saw the torrential rain storm ⛈ that we fought through last year and still said to themselves - SIGN ME UP
This group was one of the most active cohorts in the 29029 social network. They not only leaned into the training program together, but even self-organized themselves into smaller groups to help on-another prepare for the challenge to come 🤜 🤛
When it came, they stepped up. We dodged the rain this year, but low temperatures and high winds turned this intimidating mountain into a battleground once again. You saw the look on the faces of first-timers after the first couple ascents - wow, this is REALLY hard. People had to dig deep and get comfortable being uncomfortable. They leaned on alumni - some of whom have climbed Stratton multiple times - for guidance and resolve. As the sun set, they continued to climb through sub-freezing temperatures with wind gusts up to 55 mph 🌬
By the time Summit Saturday came into focus, the first-timers had earned their alumni status. They were now veterans who understood the mentality needed to be successful in this event. We watched them continue to climb until the clock ran out. Some of them earned red hats with just seconds to spare ⛰
Stratton 2024 was the ❗ at the end of an incredible 29029 season. The values and philosophy of this event were brought to life on the mountain this weekend in a way that sends the year off on a high. Thank you to the participants for their determination to overcome, their compassion to help one another, and the example they set by their actions on the mountain.

In business, the founding story can be pivotal in whether a business concept or product makes it in the market.
For 29029, so much of our founding story centers around the first climb in 2017 at Stratton Mountain, Vermont where we return this weekend to peak fall foliage 🍁
A little bit about this mountain we consider our home away from home:
Base elevation: 2521 ft
Vertical gain per hike: 1,750 ft
Miles per hike: 1.35
Average Grade: 24.1%
# of hikes to reach Everest: 17
Total miles to reach Everest: 22.4
We love when others begin their 29029 journey at Stratton, and this year over 80% of our participants at Stratton are first-timers! Here's a little more about the incredible crew who will be digging deep to find their Everests this weekend:
80% | First Timers*
20% | Alumni
Female | 52%
Male | 48%
Youngest | 17
Oldest | 70
Average | 46
38 | US states represented
4 | Countries (US, CAN, GER, MCO)
We can't wait to add a little 29029 red to this beautiful fall foliage...it's almost time to climb!

Within the 29029 community, Everest-sized goals are not only set to conquer the mountain.
With founders, funders, and business leaders across industries, geographies, and companies of all sizes, the 29029 community has many participants who have Everest-sized business goals.
No matter whether your Everest is conquering the mountain or conquering the market, the three lessons shared by Stu McLaren, a four-time 29029 finisher, in this video ring true:
1. Take Action: it's all about putting one foot in front of the other and making the choice to #KEEPCLIMBING
2. Pause and Reflect: there is an inevitable moment after 29029 where participants acknowledge their overwhelming accomplishment. In this moment, there is a forced pause. In this moment, participants gain so much more than a red hat. They reflect on the lessons learned, the connections made, and the clarity they have earned in who they want to be on the other side of their climb.
3. Iterate and Improve: it's not uncommon for us to hear "I'm never doing this again" at an awards ceremony only to welcome back that same participant the next season. One of the reasons for returning we hear cited frequently: I finished, but I wanted to improve how I felt when I finished. From training protocols to mindset mantras, these participants iterate and improve.
Thanks for capturing and sharing the climb Membership.io (formerly Searchie)!

In the world of "hustle culture," you might be missing the key to real growth... taking a minute to pause and reflect!
Stu McLaren is sharing the incredible lessons he (and our team) learned when climbing over 29,000 vertical feet in this year's 29029 Everesting event! 🏔️
Through non-stop rain and fog, our team persevered and learned invaluable lessons about life, business, and what it means to face challenges and come out stronger than ever before.

Last October, a select group of 29029 alumni took the leap of faith and registered to take on a new challenge. An ultramarathon in the mountains. Over 3 days. 3 mountain marathons. They put their trust in our team to design and deliver a new endurance experience worthy of the 29029 brand, and that pressure pushed our team to create something special.
Many of the people who signed up had never run a marathon before. To prepare them, the 29029 coaching staff designed a grueling 24-week training program. The group came together to support one another into the unknown. Would they be able to do it? Nobody knew what to expect.
Finally, after 2 years of planning and training, the first 29029 TRAIL event unfolded on the slopes of Northstar Resort in Tahoe, CA over the past 3 days.
To say it went well would be an understatement.
Mountain marathons are MUCH harder than a road marathon. Participants had to fight their way up and down an outrageous 11,000+ feet of elevation change across the 80 miles of trails they covered. The forced rest between days helped with recovery, but it also allowed bodies to stiffen, and questions to be asked about how badly we wanted it. It took real courage to lace ‘em up and step up to the start line again with 26 and then 54 mountain miles in your legs.
By Saturday, the challenge had broken everyone open to their cores.
In the end, a staggering 92% of participants completed a mountain marathon on 3 subsequent days to earn a badge of honor that nobody can ever take away from them. They were rewarded with all-new 29029 traditions – gold bibs, gongs to bash, leather to brand, different colored medals for each day, gold scarves, and lastly a 29029 TRAIL finisher belt buckle.
The last week has been a high point in the history of this community. The sense of pride that our team feels in bringing a second event concept to life at this level is enormous. But mostly we’re proud of the participants who lived up to the philosophy of the 29029 brand on the trails over the past 3 days. 80 miles. 150,000+ steps. And nothing but support and smiles for one another. A true example for all of us to aspire to.

Mont-Tremblant was our new mountain for 2024. It may not have been as well known as some of the other 29029 locations before this weekend, but the 29029 community now knows every foot of this mountain and world-class resort. So much of this event was new. French-speaking MCs. Cabriolet gondola rides across the village. A new mountain and a new course to wrap our heads around. But there was also something familiar – mainly that more than half of the athletes climbing were alumni who had been with us before and were back for more.
That veteran-heavy presence on the mountain this weekend was needed. The well-rounded 1.7 mile hike ends with a brutally steep pitch to rival Sun Valley’s ‘Wall’ and needed to be climbed an intimidating 15 times. As seems to be happening a lot lately, perfect weather on Friday turned into a rain-soaked Saturday as the skies opened up and made an already grueling challenge that much harder.
Knowing that weather was on the way, the community climbed hard on Friday and through the night. The extra urgency paid off as more than 83% of participants earned their red hat - a new high at a 29029 event. Everyone who put themselves in this extraordinary situation left their best on the mountain and each individual has a story to tell and be proud of.
To the participants – life after the mountain has just begun. Use the momentum of this experience to chase other goals with the same tenacity you unleashed on Mont-Tremblant. Continue opening yourself up to big challenges, where the big opportunities lie. And know that you are not alone — the 29029 community goes beyond this event. You're now an important member of a tribe of extraordinary people, setting an example for others to follow.
We’ll see you in Tahoe next month for our first ever TRAIL event. Until then… Keep Climbing! ↗️🏔️🔥

There is no easy way to 29,029 vertical feet.
There is no mountain that is easier than others.
The challenge to conquer 29,029 feet in 36 hours is frustratingly doable, even when the conditions are less than ideal.
We’ve dealt with periodic rain, hail, and even snow at Whistler in previous events, but this year’s consistently wet conditions upped the ante and reminded participants that this is truly a test of will not skill.
As we’ve come to expect, the 29029 community pulled one another up the mountain. In the end, an incredible 6️⃣ 7️⃣ % reached Everest and their red hat. Every single climber left their best on the mountain and shared an experience that will live with them forever.
To the participants – life after the 🏔️ has just begun. Use the momentum of this experience. Chase other goals with the same tenacity you unleashed on Blackcomb Mountain. Continue opening yourself up to big challenges, where the big opportunities lie.
For every wall you hit, remember there’s a summit waiting on the other side. And know that you are not alone — the 29029 community goes beyond this event. You’re now an important member of a tribe of extraordinary people, setting an example for others to follow.
We’ll see you in Mont-Tremblant in 2 weeks. Until then… Keep Climbing! ↗️🏔️🔥
