Look, I've learned that innovation needs space to breathe, but life doesn't pause for our big ideas! Here's my approach: I block out my "thinking time" – sacred hours when I dive deep into creative work. Sure, urgent stuff pops up, and sometimes I need to pivot. But I've found that being clear with my team about when I'm in "deep work mode" versus "available mode" helps a lot. I actually see some interruptions as mini-sparks of inspiration now. They often bring fresh perspectives I wouldn't have considered. The trick is knowing which fires really need immediate attention and which can wait. It's not perfect, but it keeps me both innovative and responsive. And it is a journey, to learn, relearn, innovate & embrace opportunities as they come.

Innovation combined with agility is a disturbing trend. In quest of speed and agility interruption has become unapologetic. I was ok with interruptions due to this, but I do find now it is impacting productivity. Despite moving to a cabin from open door setup, if you are approachable people tend to interrupt. Hence I find it helpful to stand up, move out, take a 2 min leg break and come back to work 😊

Scheduling batched focus sessions ( I usually do 90 minute batches) throughout your day is essential for critical thinking and innovation. However, in today’s digital-first work environment, avoiding interruptions entirely is unrealistic. The key lies in filtering signal from noise, even during interruptions. Prioritize what truly demands attention, delegate non-critical tasks, and use disruptions as opportunities to reassess or refine ideas. Staying anchored in your goals while adapting thoughtfully to interruptions ensures you maintain momentum in your pursuit of innovation.

Interruptions? They don’t stand a chance when you’re locked in. Here’s the deal: if everything’s important, then nothing is. I attack my goals in 90-day sprints—laser-focused, no excuses. If those priorities don’t get the time and resources they need, it’s a mission failure, plain and simple. That keeps me in the fight, focused on what truly matters. I don’t do it alone—I empower my team to own their roles, crushing their tasks to drive us forward. Every day, I break it down: what’s most important gets my energy; the rest can wait. It’s about discipline, clarity, and refusing to let distractions steal the mission.
