One thing I have found helpful when being overwhelmed by unexpected demand is to set realistic expectations. Work with your client on priority levels and come up with a timeline that works for them and for you. The worst thing you could do, is say yes to all their demands and fail to deliver. By setting the realistic expectation early on, your client will know what to expect and will afford you time to plan strategically.

Let’s start here: I might work for the client, but I am the talent or the means, and I don’t need help other than my compensation. It’s that simple. Micromanagement is not my style, and I don’t do it. I do deadlines and I do my job well. If a client fires me or my firm, the entire contract is in play, and unless a noncompete agreement was in play, other opportunities were already on the table or already in motion. — hm
