Delegation is an art and requires thinking specially when you are delegating your operational deliverables to divert your focus on thought leadership. Remember 3 things- 1) Don't just delegate, explain the Why, What, and How 2) Explain how the delegated work ties into larger piece of meaningful work 3) Provide leadership- that is, support, guidance, and mentoring 4) Appreciate and reward!!!!

We resist delegation (of anything) because we're giving away tasks that we enjoy, that come easily, that may be fun, and that got us to where we are. Is it any wonder we resist delegation? Instead of focusing on what we're giving away, focus first on all the things we'd do "if we only had time." More thought leadership? More professional/leadership development? More business development? More time on mental health? Whatever it is, if you focus on those things, and how great it will feel to finally do them, you'll gladly delegate those other tasks

Feeling overwhelmed? Delegation might be the key to freeing up time for your thought leadership! Here’s how to make it work: Lean into your team's strengths: Give tasks to those who are passionate about them, turning everyday work into growth opportunities. Focus on outcomes, not just tasks: Share your vision and let your team find their own way. Check in regularly—not to micromanage, but to celebrate wins and adjust as needed.

A coisa “voa” .

At the CxO level, building our own thought leadership can be a daunting task; after all we have only 24 hours in a day! I am a big fan of collaboration & believe 1+1=11. We need to invest in finding our +1 whom we can completely trust & delegate critical assignments to free our bandwidth & focus on building thought leadership. Work prioritization, time management & even right talent scouting critical skills that aid in this effort. However, building a culture of trust, openness, ownership & accountability in team, not only brings the peace of mind for the thought leader, but also creates more thought leaders. Providing autonomy & growth opportunities for our support team leads to higher intellectual capital & brand equity in the market!

When overwhelmed, remember that delegation isn’t just passing tasks—it's empowering others to grow. Share responsibilities by matching tasks to your team’s passions and potential. Communicate the “why” behind each task to inspire ownership, not just compliance. Trust your team, but check in—not to micromanage, but to uplift. Delegation done right is a lesson in leadership: it frees your mind for big-picture thinking while nurturing others to shine.

When overwhelmed with tasks, effective delegation is key to reclaiming your focus on thought leadership. Identify routine or less critical tasks that can be handled by your team. Clearly define expectations, provide necessary resources, and trust your team's capabilities. Delegation isn’t about offloading work; it’s about empowering others while freeing yourself to think strategically, innovate, and drive impactful decisions. Focus on what truly requires your expertise, and let your team shine in their roles.
