I faced this exact situation with my company and I presented to them the key areas for improvement which our old website had serious problems with. Improvement in page load speed by leveraging on browser caching, make use of AMP (Accelerated Mobile Page) a plug-In thats available for WordPress CMS Improve web traffic & ranking. I Highly recommend them to get REVIEWS from Happy clients and to get a SSL certificate. Most of the pages had no page titles and meta descriptions - fixed it! Asked the backed team to rectify 404 errors. Fixed images with missing ALT attributions. Fixed page URLs by reframing accordingly to the content of the page. There were significant number of broken links that directly effects ranking which I rectified.
