In my experience, follow up, after an initial in-person and virtual outreach activity has taken place. This is key to gauging for consistent messaging. Two, prompting for understanding is absolutely paramount to ensure that the messaging is shared by everyone and that their articulation of what to do and how to do it is consistent across the spectrum of the target audience. Regular reviews help to ensure for this. An adequate rhythm is to stick to 4 reviews a year. This will ensure for that consistency to check that virtual and in person outreach is shared.

The biggest compliment I get is when someone tells me that I'm always me. Whatever the venue, whether they read a piece I write or watch a video I create, authenticity is front and center, and that matters. Because I'm passionate about what I do and clear about my mission, I can't help but have consistent messaging. I'm never trying to convince anyone of anything – just sharing what I've figured out. Or what I thought I'd figured out, but hadn't!

Regardless of a method of a communication an effective manager can maintain the integrity of her message if she/he focused on clarity, preparation, use of a tone, and follow through. In my preparation, I would I would clearly outline the purpose and the key points beforehand. Always stay consistent when talking about the main idea, supporting details and action steps. One thing that works well for me is that I encourage engagement/ participation to clarify understanding of a message followed by written follow-ups in both settings. Lastly summarizing the discussion in a minute or email ensures alignment. These simple practices can help maintain focus and alignment whether communication happens in person or virtual.

Just be honest about your intention. Avoid exaggeration. As long as you are truthful you don’t need to worry about consistency. At each medium you change the style, tone or focus of your message while respecting the time of your audience.
