One can leave great impact in meetings by inforcing the importance of leadership qualities beyond just positional authority. It encourages leaders to foster a collaborative environment by behaving like an elder, being solution-oriented, and promoting open dialogue. Key points include: 1. Empowerment through People: True power lies in how effectively you can influence and work with others. 2. Positive Meeting Behavior: Encourage creativity and avoid distractions like cross-talk. 3. Constructive Engagement: Accept criticism graciously, listen actively, and respond politely. 4. Follow-Up Conversations: If conflicts arise, consider discussing them privately over coffee to maintain a positive atmosphere.

I am acutely empathic which means every change of tone, gesture, expression, lack of expression, and micro message is like a lighted billboard of information. Except, it isn't. While we may be reasonably good at interpreting how people are feeling, we are usually clueless about what made them feel that way. The mind doesn't like being clueless so it spackles over the gaps and holes with guesswork and assumptions. You have to suspend all of that in fraught meetings. Instead, listen immaculately, talk less, observe without judgement, and detach from any position you held before you walked in the room (if it's that accurate and vital, it will still be there waiting for you after the meeting; but hopefully you will have outgrown it).

Mindfulness can be a powerful tool for navigating power dynamics in meetings and fostering inclusivity. Practice active listening, focusing on the contributions of all participants, especially those with less power. Use inclusive language and avoid interrupting others. Be mindful of your own body language and tone of voice, as these can convey power dynamics. Encourage participation from quieter members and validate their ideas. By practicing mindfulness, you can create a more equitable and respectful meeting environment, where everyone feels heard and valued.

Navigating power dynamics in meetings is about more than agendas; it’s about creating spaces where everyone feels heard. I use mindfulness to foster inclusivity, starting with myself. Grounding with a few deep breaths helps me set a calm, intentional tone. I tune into what's unsaid, inviting quieter voices by asking, “What’s your take on this?” I balance dynamics by flipping roles, letting junior members lead or framing discussions with open questions. Silence is a powerful tool—I encourage pauses for reflection, unlocking ideas. Rituals like check-ins or visual exercises foster connection, even remotely. Mindfulness transforms meetings, turning them into spaces of trust and collaboration.

I assist leaders in transforming their meetings into settings where everyone feels seen and heard. I advise them to use breathwork and attentive listening to create a relaxed and focused environment. Leaders may create a culture in which every voice matters by challenging traditional power relations. I help them create an environment of equality and collaboration by using strategies based on trust and genuine connection. As a result, meetings promote trust, ignite innovation, and increase team cohesiveness.

In navigating power dynamics, mindfulness helps create a more inclusive environment. Practice active listening by giving everyone space to speak without interrupting. Be aware of your body language and tone, ensuring it’s open and non-dominant. Observe group interactions without judgment to identify any imbalances. Use mindful pauses before responding to allow for reflection and thoughtful input. These practices encourage equal participation and respect, fostering a more collaborative and inclusive meeting atmosphere.

1. Common goal, 2. clearly defined roles, 3. data shown. When mindfulness meets power dynamics it’s key to have these 3 steps addressed FIRST. Each meeting costs the company and should produce its money’s worth in met goals. How will those goals be met? Consistently, when everyone asked to enter that meeting knows why they are there and the extent of power assigned them to execute their role. How can one best their role? Being well informed, and prepared to share relevant data only. If you’re present for the meeting your voice matters. Use it and stall out the excuses. Using wisdom is advised too- do you need daily meetings?
