Besides simplifying the data, telling stories, and incorporating interactive features like hover effects, clickable elements, and filters when trying to engage an audience in data visualizations, I also turn to diversity in graphics. 15 different pie charts is overwhelming and after a presentation, you cannot remember which pie chart depicted what. Color schemes also help with separating graphics (while potentially also making the visualization more accessible to the color blind or otherwise visually impaired. Knowing about visual hierachies is a helpful tool too. Our eyes tend to notice visual content in accordance with the following six priorities: Movement, Focus, Difference, Brightness, Size (Bigger), and Placement (In Front). (1/2)
